Coinbase Lists Ripple RLUSD Across Prime, Exchange and Retail App
Ripple's RLUSD, a $2.6 billion stablecoin, is now live on Coinbase Prime, Coinbase Exchange and the retail app, with 1:1 dollar conversion and support on XRP Ledger, Ethereum and Base. Collateral support on Coinbase Global Exchange is expected to follow.
A $2.6 billion stablecoin just got Coinbase distribution. Ripple's RLUSD is now tradable on Coinbase Prime, Coinbase Exchange and the Coinbase retail app, starting October 28, according to the companies' joint announcement.
Conversion is 1:1 from U.S. dollars and other supported dollar-denominated stablecoins. Deposits and withdrawals run on three networks: the XRP Ledger, Ethereum and Coinbase's Base. Ripple will provide liquidity on Base.
Coinbase Global Exchange support comes later, including RLUSD as collateral.
"Institutions want access to a full range of payment options, alongside the execution, settlement, and custody they already rely on"
Brett Tejpaul, Co-CEO, Coinbase Institutional
Ripple framed the deal as a distribution play. "Institutional appetite for compliant, high-quality stablecoins is clear," said Jack McDonald, Ripple's SVP of stablecoins. He added: "The challenge is making them readily available through the platforms institutions already trust and use."
RLUSD launched in December 2024. Earlier on Wednesday, Moody's assigned it A2 long-term and P-1 short-term deposit ratings. Ripple and Coinbase executives are also set to discuss the next phase of institutional stablecoin adoption at Ripple Swell in New York City on October 28.
A busy week for Ripple
The listing caps a run of RLUSD news. On Monday, Ripple National Trust Bank won final OCC approval to manage RLUSD reserves. BNY also expanded its partnership with Ripple this week to cover XRP and RLUSD custody. A Robinhood partnership for RLUSD was expanded as well.
What it means
Access matters more than size here. A Coinbase listing puts RLUSD in front of both retail and institutional users on a major U.S. venue, with Base liquidity added.
A listing does not guarantee market share, though. Stablecoin competition is increasingly decided by distribution, liquidity and interoperability, not market cap alone. RLUSD now has more distribution. Whether it draws the liquidity is the open question.
