Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Blockchain Academics ("the Platform"), operated by Blockchain Academics Ltd. ("we," "us," or "our"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to all of these Terms, you may not access or use the Platform.

2. Account Registration

To access certain features, you must create an account. You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration and to keep your account information up to date.

You are responsible for safeguarding your account credentials (including any linked wallet private keys) and for all activity that occurs under your account. You must notify us immediately of any unauthorized access.

You must be at least 13 years of age to create an account. If you are under 18, you represent that your parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf.

3. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Platform for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law or regulation
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Platform, other accounts, or any systems or networks connected to the Platform
  • Manipulate XP, leaderboard rankings, badges, or other gamification features through bots, scripts, or other automated means
  • Upload, transmit, or distribute any harmful, abusive, defamatory, or otherwise objectionable content
  • Scrape, crawl, or use automated tools to extract data from the Platform without our prior written consent
  • Impersonate any person or entity, or falsely represent your affiliation with any person or entity

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms at our sole discretion.

4. Content & Intellectual Property

All content on the Platform, including but not limited to articles, research reports, course materials, videos, graphics, logos, and software, is the property of Blockchain Academics or its content licensors and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

You may access and use Platform content for personal, non-commercial purposes only. You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, create derivative works of, publicly display, or commercially exploit any Platform content without our express written permission.

If you submit content to the Platform (such as forum posts or comments), you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, display, and distribute that content in connection with the Platform.

5. XP & Rewards

The Platform features a gamification system including Experience Points (XP), badges, leaderboards, and certificates. These features are designed to encourage learning and engagement.

XP and badges have no monetary value. They cannot be redeemed for cash, cryptocurrency, or any other form of compensation. They are not securities, tokens, or financial instruments of any kind.

We reserve the right to modify, reset, or discontinue the XP and rewards system at any time without prior notice. Accumulated XP and badges do not confer any ownership rights.

6. Privacy

Your use of the Platform is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your personal information. By using the Platform, you consent to the practices described in the Privacy Policy.

7. Disclaimers

The Platform is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee that the Platform will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.

Content on the Platform, including news articles, research, and market data, is provided for educational and informational purposes only and does not constitute financial, investment, legal, or tax advice. Always do your own research and consult qualified professionals before making any financial decisions.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Blockchain Academics and its officers, directors, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of or inability to use the Platform.

Our total aggregate liability for any claims arising under these Terms shall not exceed the amount you have paid to us, if any, in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.

9. Modifications to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes will be communicated via email or a prominent notice on the Platform. Your continued use of the Platform after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.

10. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which Blockchain Academics Ltd. is incorporated, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

12. Crypto API and MCP Server

This section applies when you use the Blockchain Academics Crypto API, the MCP server packages on npm and PyPI, the CLI or the API dashboard (together, the "API"). It adds to the sections above; on API matters, where the two differ, this section applies. Plans, quotas and prices are listed on the pricing page.

API Keys

Your API key is a bearer credential: anyone who holds it can spend the quota billed to your account. Keep it confidential. Do not commit it to a public repository, embed it in a browser or mobile app, or share it with a third party. The free tier issues one key per email address. You can sign in with GitHub or Google; the account email is then the verified email of that GitHub or Google account, and the one key per email rule still applies. A key is shown once, in your browser, when you confirm your email or first open the dashboard; we store only a one-way hash and never send it by email. If you suspect a key has leaked, rotate it from the API dashboard, which stops the old key at once and shows you the new one, once, or write to [email protected]. Calls made with a key before you rotate it remain your responsibility.

Tiers, Quotas and Rate Limits

Each tier comes with a monthly call quota, a rate limit and a set of tools, as listed on the pricing page. Calls over the limit are refused with HTTP 429 and a Retry-After header; tools above your tier answer HTTP 403. Free and Starter stop at their quota until the monthly reset. Pro and Team may run over their quota, and the overage is billed on the next invoice at the rate shown on the pricing page. Enterprise limits are set in contract.

Attribution

Every response carries an attribution block: a cite_url to the Blockchain Academics source it came from, an as_of timestamp and a source_hash. On the Free and Starter tiers you must show the cite_url in any user-facing output derived from the API, including an AI agent's answer. Pro and above may keep attribution internal, and we encourage showing it anyway. Removing or falsifying cite_url or source_hash is a material breach of these Terms.

Acceptable Use

You may use the API for any lawful purpose, including commercial products, within the quota and rate limit of your tier. Section 4 does not restrict data you retrieve through the API within those limits, subject to the attribution rule above. You may not:

  • Rehost or resell our aggregated dataset as a competing data product
  • Circumvent rate limits, quotas or authentication, including by sharing a key or pooling several free keys for one project
  • Use the API in violation of securities, sanctions or consumer protection law

API data is provided for information only and is not financial advice. Section 7 applies, and you are responsible for validating data before you act on it.

Billing, Cancellation and Refunds

Paid tiers are billed monthly in USD through Stripe, which handles your card details. A subscription renews each month until you cancel it from the billing portal on the API dashboard; cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for, and there is no contract term. Upgrades are prorated at once; downgrades take effect at the next billing cycle, with no prorated refund. A first subscription may be refunded in full on request within 7 days of purchase. If a payment fails and stays past due, you lose the paid tier until the card is updated. The free tier needs no card. Enterprise plans are governed by their contract where it differs from these Terms.

Service Levels

Pro and Team carry a 99.9% monthly uptime commitment on the REST API; Enterprise commitments are set in contract; Free and Starter are best effort. Current health and the support commitment for each tier are on the status page.
