Bitmine Crosses 6M ETH Threshold With $32M Buy as Tom Lee Calls Peak of Stacking Phase
Bitmine added 12,532 ETH last week, bringing its total Ethereum treasury to 6.03 million tokens. Chairman Tom Lee signaled the firm is nearly done stacking and forecasted the largest crypto bull market yet, with BMNR stock predicted to outperform the broader market.
Bitmine added 12,532 ETH last week, pushing its total Ethereum treasury to 6.03 million tokens and cementing its position as one of the largest single corporate holders of any proof-of-stake asset on the planet. At current prices near $2,551, the purchase cost roughly $32 million and extends the firm's streak of consecutive weekly accumulation buys.
The 6.03 million ETH figure represents 4.9% of Ethereum's total circulating supply. That concentration alone would be notable. What makes it sharper is that 84% of those holdings are actively staked, generating yield while simultaneously reducing the liquid float of ETH on secondary markets. Bitmine is not sitting on a passive balance sheet position. It is running a compounding yield strategy at scale.
Chairman Tom Lee signaled this week that the accumulation phase may be winding down.
"Bitmine is nearly 'done stacking'."
Tom Lee, Chairman, Bitmine
Lee also went further, forecasting what he described as the largest crypto bull market yet and predicting that BMNR stock will outperform the broader crypto market through the cycle. Those are bold claims, but Lee's macro track record gives them more weight than the average corporate cheerleading. Whether the timing proves right is a separate question from whether the thesis is coherent, and the thesis here is clearly structured: accumulate ETH at scale, stake the majority, ride institutional adoption tailwinds, and let the equity compress the discount to NAV (net asset value) as the market reprices.
The playbook is not new. Bitmine is executing a deliberate mirror of what MicroStrategy did with Bitcoin starting in 2020, substituting ETH's staking yield for Bitcoin's scarcity premium. MicroStrategy's bet looked reckless to many observers at the time and eventually made Michael Saylor's balance sheet the most-discussed corporate treasury in finance. Bitmine is betting the same dynamic plays out for Ethereum, with the added wrinkle that staked ETH generates income rather than just sitting as a digital reserve asset. The risk side of that trade is real: staking creates lock-in. If ETH prices deteriorate sharply, Bitmine cannot simply liquidate 84% of its position without meaningful friction and market impact.
A single corporate entity controlling 4.9% of ETH supply, with the majority of that staked, has measurable influence over network economics. Ethereum's proof-of-stake model distributes validation rewards across stakers, but concentrated staking by institutional holders has been a recurring governance concern since the Merge in September 2022. Bitmine's position is not large enough to threaten consensus security, but it is large enough to matter in conversations about staking centralization.
The "nearly done stacking" signal cuts both ways for near-term price action. Optimists read it as a confirmation that Bitmine believes ETH is approaching fair value, making further accumulation less attractive at the margin. Bears read the same signal as a potential ceiling: if the most aggressive corporate buyer is stepping back, one source of consistent bid pressure disappears. ETH is up about 1.2% in the past 24 hours, trading at $2,551 with $15.2 billion in daily volume and a market cap of $306.8 billion. The market has not yet priced in a dramatic reaction to the Bitmine announcement either direction.
What the broader market is watching is whether Bitmine's model attracts imitators. One MicroStrategy created a template that dozens of smaller firms tried to replicate. One Bitmine doing the same with ETH could pull corporate treasury interest toward Ethereum in a way that the asset has not seen before. Staking yield makes the pitch easier to a CFO than a pure store-of-value argument. Whether Lee's "largest-ever bull market" call proves prescient or premature, the infrastructure Bitmine is building around its ETH position is designed to survive both outcomes.
