MicroStrategy Deepens Bitcoin Bet With $427M Purchase, Eyes 2025 Yield Surge
MicroStrategy adds 4,020 BTC for $427M, bringing its total to 580,250 BTC as it targets record 2025 returns.
MicroStrategy has intensified its unprecedented Bitcoin acquisition strategy, purchasing an additional 4,020 BTC for $427.1 million during the week ending May 25, 2025. The move raises the company’s total holdings to 580,250 BTC, securing its status as the largest corporate holder of the digital asset.
The purchase, made at an average price of $106,237 per coin, marks yet another milestone in MicroStrategy's long-term crypto treasury approach. To date, the firm has spent approximately $40.61 billion on its Bitcoin reserves, with an average acquisition cost of $69,979 per BTC. This massive stockpile now accounts for about 2.9% of Bitcoin’s circulating supply.
Michael Saylor, executive chairman of MicroStrategy and the architect of its Bitcoin-focused vision, revealed that the company’s proprietary "BTC Yield" metric has surged to 16.8% year-to-date. This figure already surpasses the firm’s full-year target, signaling strong returns amid a resurgent crypto market.
The acquisition was financed through a mix of ongoing at-the-market (ATM) equity sales and newly issued preferred shares—8% "STRK" and 10% "STRF" perpetual securities. This funding strategy reflects MicroStrategy's commitment to leveraging capital markets to aggressively expand its Bitcoin holdings.
With Bitcoin prices hovering near all-time highs, market observers are watching closely to see if MicroStrategy will accelerate further equity and preferred share issuance. Such moves could significantly influence both crypto and equity markets, given the firm’s dual impact as a Bitcoin whale and a publicly traded entity.
The strategic implications are substantial. As MicroStrategy's Bitcoin reserves grow, so too does its influence over market sentiment and institutional interest. At the same time, the firm's reliance on stock and preferred share sales to fund purchases raises questions about long-term shareholder value and financial risk.
For now, however, the market seems aligned with Saylor’s vision. By converting balance sheet capital into a high-performing digital asset, MicroStrategy is not only betting on Bitcoin's future, but reshaping how public companies might approach asset management in a decentralized financial era.
