FIFA is making a strategic leap into the Web3 arena by migrating its digital collectibles platform, FIFA Collect, to a dedicated Layer-1 blockchain developed in collaboration with Avalanche and Modex. This transition, set to occur after May 20, marks a significant enhancement of FIFA's blockchain footprint.

Avalanche confirmed that FIFA Collect will serve as the flagship application on the new chain, which is engineered to support NFTs, digital games, and a variety of fan-focused digital assets. This custom infrastructure is designed to ensure improved scalability, heightened security, and a superior fan experience.

Modex, named as the technical partner and infrastructure provider, will oversee the design of the blockchain's architecture and the upgrade of the FIFA Collect platform. The revamped marketplace will continue offering digital drops that spotlight iconic players, clubs, and historic football moments, maintaining the format familiar to fans from FIFA's previous Drops Page.

This development is part of a larger initiative that positions FIFA as a major player in the digital sports economy. The organization’s commitment is evident in the integration of Web3 technologies to foster deeper fan engagement and provide scalable digital experiences.

According to official sources from Avalanche and FIFA, the new Layer-1 will not only host FIFA Collect but also serve as a foundational platform for future blockchain integrations, including NFT-based games and other tokenized fan experiences. This move is seen as FIFA's most ambitious blockchain project to date, following exploratory ventures during the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

In tandem, FIFA Rivals—a mobile football game developed by Mythical Games—will feature an NFT marketplace that allows trading of footballer NFTs. This initiative aims to blend gaming with digital asset ownership, targeting a mobile-centric audience and expanding FIFA’s digital reach.

The global trend of sports organizations embracing blockchain continues to accelerate, and FIFA’s adoption of Avalanche’s robust infrastructure signals its readiness to innovate within this space. As digital collectibles and NFTs gain traction, FIFA’s proactive approach may set a benchmark for sports entities worldwide looking to harness the power of blockchain for fan engagement.
