Eliza

Today: the MCP plugin

Add the server to your character's plugin settings. Eliza spawns the process and speaks MCP over stdin and stdout; all 105 tools become callable.

character.json
json
{
  "name": "CryptoAnalyst",
  "plugins": ["@elizaos/plugin-mcp"],
  "settings": {
    "mcp": {
      "servers": {
        "blockchainacademics": {
          "type": "stdio",
          "command": "npx",
          "args": ["-y", "@blockchainacademics/mcp"],
          "env": { "BCA_API_KEY": "bca_live_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" }
        }
      }
    }
  }
}

Python-only hosts can run the PyPI package instead: "command": "bca-mcp" after pipx install bca-mcp, or "command": "python", "args": ["-m", "bca_mcp"] when pipx's bin directory is not on the PATH Eliza starts with.

Add one line to the character's system prompt so the agent cites what it reads: "Always include the cite_url from Blockchain Academics responses when you use their data."

Coming: a dedicated plugin

The dedicated plugin exposes the tools as native Eliza actions (BCA_SEARCH_NEWS, BCA_GET_PRICE and so on) plus a context provider, with no MCP configuration beyond the key in the character's secrets:

character.json
json
{
  "name": "CryptoAnalyst",
  "plugins": ["@elizaos/plugin-bca"],
  "settings": { "secrets": { "BCA_API_KEY": "bca_live_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" } }
}
