Trust Wallet Says Binance, Polymarket Breaches Did Not Affect It

Trust Wallet said it was unaffected by the breaches at Binance and Polymarket, according to a Crypto Briefing report dated October 30, 2026. The self-custody wallet also said, per the same report, it will run an internal security review focused on AI-driven attacks. The statement matters because both incidents hit on October 29 and, according to early reports, may have come through a compromised engineer's laptop at Binance and a compromised third-party provider at Polymarket.

What Trust Wallet said

Crypto Briefing reports the review will be comprehensive, with particular attention to AI-driven attacks. It adds that Trust Wallet has not publicly detailed the review's precise scope. The review reportedly builds on proactive measures already in place, but the retrieved text does not list them. Blockchain Academics could not locate a primary Trust Wallet post, so this account rests on one outlet. No timeline has been found.

The incidents

Polymarket's international platform was hit on October 29 when a compromised third-party provider exposed users to wallet theft. SecurityWeek reported that researchers linked malicious code to DebugBear, a UK website performance monitoring firm. Trading resumed after about an hour, and Polymarket pledged to reimburse all affected traders; its US platform was reportedly unaffected. Axios says an attacker made off with at least $2.7 million, while SecurityWeek's headline says more than $2 million. Polymarket had not published a final figure in at least one report.

Binance said on X on October 29 that it was aware of reports of a potential security issue and had not yet confirmed any impact to user funds. It later said it would cover all losses and kept deposits and withdrawals suspended during security checks and work with law enforcement. Binance's later update put its estimated total impact at about $6.3 billion (as of Oct. 30), up from the $3 billion in frozen assets Reuters reported earlier; Tether, Circle and Ripple also reported freezes. Binance said the frozen amount could rise, and the final loss figure may also change. Binance's initial investigation suggested the incident may involve a compromised development operations engineer's laptop, and it said it found no evidence of any wallet private key leak, according to Yahoo/AP-style reporting. Axios reported an alleged North Korea link, which is not a confirmed attribution.

Trust Wallet's background

Trust Wallet is a multi-chain, non-custodial wallet, so users hold their own private keys. Binance acquired it in 2018, its first acquisition. It later became a separate company owned by Binance founder Changpeng Zhao.

The wallet had its own incident in December 2025. Attackers breached a version of its Chrome extension, and developers urged users to disable it and upgrade. Zhao said affected users would be compensated. A Finance Magnates headline cites $7 million in compensation, a figure not confirmed in the body text, and Crypto Briefing calls the episode a supply-chain exposure.

Why it matters

Per Reuters, Binance.US said it was not affected, and Coinbase said it was unaffected and monitoring. Trust Wallet's claim of isolation from Binance's affected systems is its own and has not been independently verified. Trust Wallet's own December 2025 extension breach, which Crypto Briefing calls a supply-chain exposure, shows it has faced software-level risk before.

The AI focus is not tied to anything reported so far. Binance's reported route was an engineer's laptop, and Polymarket's was a third-party script. AI involvement in either attack has not been established, and no source reviewed for this report shows it.

Bitcoin had fallen below its early-trading level, while BNB was slightly above it. Reuters reported bitcoin down about 2% to a six-week low of $77,646 and BNB down more than 8% over 24 hours to $694 in early Asian trading. At about 14:02 UTC on October 30, bitcoin traded near $76,853 and BNB near $697.

What to watch

  • A primary Trust Wallet disclosure confirming the wording and channel.
  • Any published scope or timeline for the review.
  • Binance's final loss figure and confirmed cause.
