JUST DAO sets $50M minimum treasury reserve, to add GasFree revenue to JST buybacks from Q4 2026
JUST DAO's Oct 23, 2026 announcement upgrades the JST buyback and burn program. It sets a $50M minimum reserve that buybacks will not draw below and schedules an estimated $20.34M surplus for four installments from Q4 2026.
JUST DAO, which the announcement describes as the central governance hub overseeing JustLend, USDD, GasFree and other initiatives, announced an upgrade to its JST Buyback & Burn mechanism on October 23, 2026. The change adds GasFree revenue to buyback funding, sets a treasury floor and schedules an estimated surplus for four installments from Q4 2026. It is a policy change, not a completed cash injection.
What changed
The announcement says the program has completed its initial five rounds, marking the full deployment of JustLend's historical revenue reserves. Going forward, 100% of revenue across all JUST ecosystem business lines will be allocated to buying back JST. The amount per round is set dynamically based on market conditions, and repurchased JST is burned on a schedule.
Ongoing capital will come from three sources. These are JustLend protocol earnings (primarily sTRX staking and SBM operations), GasFree revenue starting in Q4 2026, and USDD future net revenue above $10 million, "subject to specific operational prerequisites."
The reserve floor
JUST DAO says a minimum $50 million reserve is kept at the Treasury address for risk mitigation, emergency redemptions and liquidity support. Funds below that threshold will not be used for buybacks and burns.
What the surplus is
The announcement calls the $20.34 million an "estimated" surplus beyond the safety buffer. It is sourced "primarily" from GasFree's cumulative revenue and unallocated treasury funds above the threshold. The announcement presents this separately from the newly generated quarterly revenue that funds ongoing buybacks.
The announcement states GasFree generated about $12.027 million in cumulative revenue through Q3 2026, since its March 2025 launch. That is about $8.31 million less than the surplus (Blockchain Academics calculation), so GasFree cannot be the whole figure. KuCoin News, citing Golden Finance, attributes the full amount to GasFree, which conflicts with the primary announcement.
The announcement gives no per-installment amounts or dates. NewsBTC's headline describes the surplus as injected, but the primary says deployment begins in Q4 2026, and no on-chain deployment was found in our checks.
Execution moves to JUST DAO
Earlier buybacks and burns ran under the name JustLend Grants DAO. All future operations will be executed by JUST DAO. Repurchased JST goes to a TRON black hole address for permanent destruction. Burn transaction hashes will be published at the same time, and per-round data will be updated on JUST's official dashboard.
Why it matters, and what to watch
JST traded at $0.140815 on October 24, with a market cap of $1.13 billion. The surplus equals about 1.8% of that market cap (Blockchain Academics calculation). No price impact from the announcement has been confirmed.
Key items to watch are how much of the surplus comes from GasFree versus unallocated treasury funds, when each installment is deployed, and whether burn disclosures appear on the dashboard as promised.
Caveats
The NewsBTC article is bylined BlockmanPR and reads as a promotional release. Its October 16 date for the fifth round and its GasFree usage figures rest on that piece alone and are unverified. Its TVL claims also differ from DefiLlama: NewsBTC cites JustLend TVL above $7.13 billion as of October 23, while DefiLlama showed $6.91 billion for JustLend and $1.25 billion for USDD on October 24.
