Fanatics Acquires BGC Group Assets to Launch Federally Regulated Prediction Market Exchange

New York, July 27, 2026. Fanatics, the sports commerce and betting platform serving more than 150 million users, has acquired key assets from BGC Group to build a federally regulated prediction market exchange, entering a sector processing $187 million in average daily volume as of Q1 2026. The acquisition combines BGC Group's 30-year history as a FINRA-registered broker-dealer with Fanatics' established sports betting infrastructure, positioning the company to compete with Polymarket and Kalshi in an increasingly institutionalized market.

The move arrives at a pivotal moment for prediction markets. Following CFTC regulatory guidance issued in September 2024, Wall Street asset managers including Grayscale, iShares, and Invesco launched prediction market ETFs that accumulated $8.7 billion in assets under management within six months of approval. Traditional finance institutions have accelerated their crypto infrastructure investments in parallel: Deutsche Börse committed $200 million to Kraken at a $13.3 billion valuation in April 2026.

Fanatics' platform, which will operate under federal regulatory oversight, is designed to serve both retail sports bettors and institutional investors through a single interface. The BGC Group assets provide the compliance framework and financial services infrastructure required for CFTC registration. The company plans to integrate prediction market contracts directly into its existing sports betting application, targeting contract categories spanning sports outcomes, macroeconomic indicators, and political events.

"Prediction markets have crossed from speculative instrument to regulated financial infrastructure," said Michael Rubin, CEO of Fanatics. "BGC Group's regulatory foundation, combined with our user base and event-based risk management expertise, gives us a credible path to building the exchange that institutional and retail participants have been waiting for."

The competitive landscape has grown crowded. Polymarket maintains the largest retail presence with over $100 million in daily volume on Ethereum-based infrastructure, though it operates without formal CFTC registration. Kalshi holds a federal regulatory license but has a smaller user base and no sports betting integration. Hyperliquid entered the prediction market sector in May 2026 with $2 billion in daily perpetual futures volume supporting its derivatives infrastructure. Fanatics' primary differentiation is distribution: no existing prediction market platform has direct access to a comparable retail user base with established event-based wagering behavior.

The platform launch is targeted for Q4 2026, pending regulatory approval, with full sports betting integration expected in Q1 2027. Fanatics has indicated plans to expand contract offerings to macroeconomic and political events in 2027, followed by international regulatory approvals targeting European and Asian markets.

Execution risks are material. Polymarket and Kalshi hold established advantages in liquidity network development and institutional relationships. The regulatory framework, while clarified by CFTC guidance, remains subject to potential revision. Technology integration between BGC Group assets and Fanatics' existing infrastructure presents operational complexity. The company has not disclosed the financial terms of the acquisition or the specific BGC Group assets included in the transaction.
