Blockchain.com announced on Oct. 20, 2026 that it launched options trading inside its Trading Account for eligible users in supported jurisdictions. Users can buy calls and puts on seven cryptoassets, with expiries of up to one week. The launch follows Blockchain.com's introduction of perpetual futures trading earlier this year, according to the press release.

Blockchain.com describes itself as a global crypto company serving retail and institutional users.

What launched

At launch, eligible users can buy options on Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Solana (SOL), Hyperliquid (HYPE), Avalanche (AVAX), XRP and TRON (TRX).

How it works

The user picks an expiry date and a target price, enters a trade amount and reviews the trade. Blockchain.com then translates that view into the corresponding call or put option. Live market prices appear in the trading experience.

Trades are funded upfront in USDC from the user's Trading Account. Users buy options rather than trade on margin, so the amount paid upfront is the maximum potential loss.

Expiries are initially up to one week. Options must be held through settlement, so there is no early exit.

Who can use it

The product is available to eligible users in supported jurisdictions, subject to applicable laws and regulatory requirements. The press release text does not name those jurisdictions. The Defiant's page description says US and UK residents are excluded. The press release does not confirm this, and the article body could not be read.

The launch is separate from Blockchain.com's US licence process. On Oct. 13, 2026 the company said it had filed with the CFTC for registration as a Futures Commission Merchant and designation as a Designated Contract Market. If approved, those would let it offer regulated crypto derivatives and prediction-market event contracts to US customers. The applications are pending, so this should not be read as a US launch.

Context

In the Oct. 13 release, Blockchain.com said it had earlier in 2026 announced self-custodied prediction market offerings and perpetual futures for users in eligible markets worldwide. It also cited MiCA authorization through the Malta Financial Services Authority, FCA registration in the UK and a VASP license in the Cayman Islands.

At 13:59 UTC on Oct. 20, BTC traded at $81,936.66, with a market cap of $1.65 trillion. ETH traded at $2,405.61, SOL at $104.88 and XRP at $1.31. USDC, the funding currency, is the second-largest stablecoin with a 23.7% share of the $304.44 billion total, according to DefiLlama.

What is not yet known

The sources do not give fee levels, the counterparty or liquidity provider, or whether the options are on-exchange or over the counter. They also do not say how options are settled. No full list of eligible jurisdictions, usage figures or exact perpetual futures launch date was available.
