BlackRock Launches BSTBL and BRSRV Tokenized Money Market Funds on Ethereum

New York, August 3, 2026. BlackRock has launched two tokenized money market funds — BSTBL (BlackRock Short-Term Treasury Bond Ladder) and BRSRV (BlackRock Reserve Fund) — deploying both products across Ethereum and select Layer 2 networks. The funds are available immediately to US institutional investors, with Singapore and EU rollouts planned for Q4 2026.

The launch follows 18 months of accelerating regulatory clarity. The CFTC's September 2024 guidance on blockchain-based financial products established the compliance framework BlackRock leveraged for BSTBL and BRSRV. Prediction market ETFs, approved in April 2026, accumulated $8.7 billion in AUM within six months of approval — faster than Bitcoin ETFs achieved comparable adoption. That precedent confirmed institutional appetite for blockchain-native financial products and provided a regulatory template for tokenized asset classes beyond derivatives.

BSTBL holds a laddered portfolio of short-duration US Treasury securities, targeting institutional investors seeking capital preservation with blockchain-native settlement. BRSRV functions as a traditional reserve fund, optimized for corporate treasury and institutional cash management. Both funds settle in USDT and USDC across Ethereum mainnet and Arbitrum, with multi-signature custody protocols managed through institutional-grade key management infrastructure. BlackRock has maintained settlement layer flexibility to incorporate CBDC rails as regulatory frameworks develop.

The operational context is material. Ethereum's $180–220 billion in daily transaction volume reflects the network's infrastructure capacity for institutional settlement. Layer 2 solutions reduce per-transaction costs to sub-basis-point levels, making on-chain settlement economically competitive with incumbent clearinghouse infrastructure. The total tokenized asset market currently stands at $185 billion, representing 2.1% of total crypto TVL.

BlackRock's existing institutional relationships, combined with planned integration into Coinbase Custody and Fidelity Digital Assets platforms in Q4 2026, provide access to institutional clients without requiring new custody infrastructure on their end.

Compliance frameworks span multiple jurisdictions from launch. US operations fall under existing SEC money market fund regulations, with CFTC oversight for blockchain settlement components. Singapore's Monetary Authority framework and EU MiCA regulations govern international availability. BlackRock coordinated with SIFMA and the Investment Company Institute throughout development.

The broader market context: total crypto market capitalization reached $2.8 trillion in August 2026, up 45% year-to-date, driven primarily by institutional ETF inflows. Ethereum trades at $3,240 with a $420 billion market cap. DeFi TVL on Ethereum stands at $280 billion, with Layer 2 solutions holding an additional $45 billion.

BlackRock expects to expand the tokenized product line to include corporate bonds and equity-linked instruments pending SEC approval, with a preliminary timeline of Q1–Q2 2027.
