World Liberty Financial Plans WLFI Buyback After 66% Slide

WLFI is down more than 66% this year. World Liberty Financial announced a buyback program on November 5, potentially funded by USD1 reserve fees, after a post-midterm drop. A $65.6 million buyback earlier this year did not stop the slide.

WLFI is down more than 66% this year, and World Liberty Financial wants to buy more of it. The Trump family-backed venture announced a token buyback program on Thursday, November 5, after the price fell about 10% since Tuesday's U.S. midterm elections.

The company said in a post on X that the program would begin with an initial allocation, potentially funded by fees earned from the reserves backing its USD1 stablecoin and other sources.

The stated goal is governance: more active participation, and more voting power in the hands of committed long-term holders. World Liberty framed buybacks as standing policy:

"We intend for buybacks to be an ongoing part of our long-term strategy with the pace and scale guided by ecosystem growth and impact on governance participation,"

Track record

This is not the first round. In April, the company disclosed $65.6 million in open-market buybacks over the prior six months. The token kept falling anyway.

Political backdrop

Republicans performed worse than expected in the elections. Trump-linked assets took the hit with WLFI. The TRUMP memecoin fell 22% this week to $1.2 after a record low of $1.12 on November 5. Trump Media shares also hit record lows, with DJT closing the week at $4.49.

Democrats won control of Congress in the November 3 midterms. Rep. Robert Garcia, expected to lead House Oversight, has indicated the panel plans to examine the Trump family's crypto dealings.

Legal overhang

On the day of the vote, Justin Sun said he had asked a federal court to sanction World Liberty in his lawsuit over roughly 4 billion frozen WLFI tokens. We covered that motion, which alleges the company disclosed its UAE citizenship only after months of litigation. Separately, a Circle shareholder sued Trump and World Liberty over UAE-linked deals last month.

What it means

Tapping USD1 reserve fees links WLFI support to stablecoin adoption. The pace, per the company, will track growth and governance participation.

The first program did not hold the price. The second faces the same test, now with congressional scrutiny and litigation in the background.

Next date on the calendar: a gala dinner on November 22, scheduled to bring Trump together with the token's top 185 holders.
