Truth Social Bets Big on Crypto with Bold ETF Filing
Truth Social files for a crypto ETF allocating 75% to Bitcoin and 25% to Ethereum, signaling deeper entry into digital assets.
In a move that underscores its expanding ambitions beyond social media, Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG), parent company of Truth Social, has filed to launch a cryptocurrency exchange-traded fund (ETF) allocating 75% to Bitcoin and 25% to Ethereum. The proposed ETF, dubbed the Truth Social Bitcoin and Ethereum ETF, marks the company's most significant foray yet into the digital asset space.
Filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) under both an S-1 registration and a Form 19b-4, the ETF will be listed on NYSE Arca upon approval. The fund, sponsored by Yorkville America Digital, will directly hold Bitcoin and Ether, offering investors regulated exposure to the price performance of the two leading cryptocurrencies. Crypto.com will serve as the custodian, prime execution agent, and liquidity provider.
"The ETF will hold Bitcoin and Ether directly, with 75% of its assets invested in Bitcoin and 25% in Ether," TMTG said in a press release, emphasizing its goal to reflect market performance of the underlying assets.
Launched in 2022, Truth Social positioned itself as a free-speech platform in response to what it described as censorship by Big Tech. The platform now reports 13 million users and has diversified into streaming (Truth+) and fintech (Truth.Fi), the latter branding itself as an "America First" financial ecosystem.
This ETF proposal comes shortly after TMTG announced a $2.3 billion Bitcoin treasury allocation, reinforcing the group’s growing commitment to cryptocurrency. The initiative reflects not just technological ambitions, but political and ideological ones as well. Trump Media is majority-owned by former President Donald Trump through a trust managed by Donald Trump Jr., sparking renewed debate over potential conflicts of interest.
The timing may also prove fortuitous. SEC Chair Paul Atkins has signaled a more crypto-friendly regulatory stance, potentially opening the door for new financial instruments like the Truth Social ETF. Still, the company acknowledges in its filing that political shifts—particularly under a future Trump administration—could introduce new risks.
If approved, the ETF will enter a competitive landscape dominated by industry giants such as BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), which already boasts nearly $70 billion in assets under management. The application notes that shares will only be offered via a formal prospectus once the registration becomes effective, with a decision deadline set for January 29, 2026.
By stepping into the ETF market, Truth Social is not just betting on crypto—it’s signaling an ambition to redefine itself as a financial player in the digital economy.
