In a move that merges political branding with digital finance, Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG), the parent company of Donald Trump’s Truth Social platform, has announced a bold plan to acquire $2.5 billion worth of Bitcoin. The announcement triggered a slight rally in Bitcoin’s price, pushing it past the $110,000 mark.

The company, which trades under the ticker DJT on Nasdaq and NYSE Texas, revealed that it has secured commitments from 50 institutional investors to fund the acquisition. This capital will be raised through $1.5 billion in common stock and $1 billion in convertible senior secured notes. The deal is set to close on May 29, 2025.

“We view Bitcoin as an apex instrument of financial freedom,” said Devin Nunes, CEO and chairman of TMTG. “Our first acquisition of a crown jewel asset, this investment will help defend our company against harassment and discrimination by financial institutions.”

Trump Media’s pivot towards Bitcoin coincides with the start of the Bitcoin 2025 conference in Las Vegas, where Trump’s sons Eric and Donald Jr. are expected to appear as speakers. The timing appears strategically aligned, positioning the company at the heart of crypto's ongoing mainstream push.

Once completed, the acquisition will make Trump Media one of the few publicly traded companies to maintain a significant Bitcoin treasury, following in the footsteps of corporate giants like Strategy, which has accumulated over $40 billion in BTC, and asset management titan BlackRock, which has aggressively expanded its holdings through spot Bitcoin ETFs.

Crypto.com and Anchorage Digital will serve as custodians for Trump Media’s Bitcoin holdings. Yorkville Securities and Clear Street are acting as co-lead placement agents, with Cantor Fitzgerald providing financial advisory services.

At press time, Bitcoin was trading at approximately $110,065—just 1.7% below its all-time high of $111,970 recorded on May 22, 2025.

This unprecedented crypto play by a politically aligned media firm raises both market eyebrows and ideological stakes, framing Bitcoin not just as an investment, but as a declaration of economic sovereignty.
