World Liberty Financial (WLF), a high-profile crypto venture backed by former U.S. President Donald Trump, is preparing to release its first stablecoin audit while hinting at a pivotal change: the transferability of its governance token, WLFI.

Speaking at the Permissionless conference in Brooklyn, co-founder Zak Folkman confirmed the company had received its first attestation report from an accounting firm, which he said will be published on the project’s website "within the next few days." The audit is expected to lend much-needed transparency to the firm’s stablecoin, a key component of its DeFi ecosystem.

More notably, Folkman suggested that WLFI, currently a non-transferable governance token, may soon be tradable. "If you pay attention over the next couple of weeks, I think everyone... is going to be very, very happy," he teased during the panel. The token currently grants voting rights but cannot be transferred, limiting its utility for investors.

The announcement was later echoed on social media, where World Liberty hinted that the long-awaited change is imminent: "You asked to make $WLFI transferable — we heard you," the project posted. Despite excitement from some quarters, skepticism persists. Critics on X suggested the move might be a strategy to offload tokens to the broader market, with concerns about retail investors bearing the risk.

World Liberty has ambitious plans beyond the WLFI transition. Folkman announced the upcoming launch of a retail-focused crypto app aimed at simplifying user interaction with digital assets. This could broaden the platform’s reach ahead of the 2024 U.S. election cycle, where crypto policy is likely to become a central debate topic.

Since its September 2024 launch, World Liberty has raised $550 million through two public token sales. Its mission: disrupt traditional finance with a suite of DeFi services and a dollar-pegged stablecoin. Trump, according to his 2025 financial disclosure, holds over 15 billion WLFI tokens and has reportedly earned $57.4 million from the venture, suggesting strong personal financial interest.

The platform has drawn support from notable investors, including Tron founder Justin Sun, who invested $30 million, and Web3Port with a $10 million contribution. Oddiyana Ventures also joined in early 2025. These high-profile endorsements bolster WLF’s credibility, but regulatory and political scrutiny could increase as the firm gains traction.

As the WLFI token approaches potential transferability and the audit nears release, World Liberty Financial stands at a crossroads: poised for broader adoption, yet shadowed by market skepticism and political entanglements.
