Telegram Launches TON Wallet in the U.S., Targeting Seamless Crypto Use for 87 Million Users
Telegram rolls out its native crypto wallet in the U.S., enabling self-custody and stablecoin transactions for millions.
Telegram has officially launched its integrated TON Wallet in the United States, introducing frictionless crypto transactions to one of its largest user bases. With over 87 million U.S. users, Telegram’s latest move brings self-custody wallets and crypto payments directly into the hands of mainstream Americans—without requiring downloads, extensions, or technical onboarding.
Developed by The Open Platform (TOP), the TON Wallet now operates natively within Telegram’s interface, enabling users to send stablecoins, manage tokens, and swap digital assets inside the chat application itself. The wallet’s design emphasizes simplicity, using a split-key backup system that eliminates the need for traditional seed phrases. One part of the recovery key is linked to the user's Telegram account, and the other to their email.
“Our goal is to remove as much friction as possible,” said Andrew Rogozov, CEO of TOP. “We believe crypto should feel as natural as sending a message.”
The U.S. rollout comes after a significant year for the wallet globally. Following more than 100 million activations worldwide in 2024, the decision to launch stateside was driven by a combination of Telegram’s rapidly expanding U.S. presence and a gradually improving regulatory climate.
Until recently, Telegram had been wary of the American market due to regulatory unpredictability. However, recent developments—including the SEC's softening stance and narrowing enforcement scope—have made the operating environment more navigable for crypto infrastructure players.
To further streamline adoption, Telegram has partnered with MoonPay to enable debit card on-ramps, zero-fee purchases, and instant token swaps—all while offloading regulatory complexity to MoonPay’s infrastructure. This partnership allows TON Wallet to sidestep direct financial compliance hurdles while delivering a smooth user experience.
The wallet's integration into the Telegram app marks a milestone for crypto usability. Stablecoin transfers can now be executed with the same ease as sending a message, reshaping how digital assets are experienced by everyday users. With no need for separate apps or browser extensions, the TON Wallet lowers the barrier to entry for a broader demographic.
This launch signals a significant evolution in how financial tools can be integrated into messaging platforms, potentially influencing other tech giants exploring blockchain applications. As the line between communication and commerce continues to blur, Telegram positions itself at the forefront of the crypto adoption curve.
