Stripe and Visa Back Fold’s Bitcoin Credit Card for Mainstream Adoption
Fold teams with Stripe and Visa to launch a Bitcoin rewards credit card, making BTC accessible through everyday spending.
Bitcoin services company Fold has partnered with Stripe and Visa to launch its new credit card, a bitcoin-only rewards product designed to bring digital assets further into the mainstream. Announced on September 23, the Fold Bitcoin Credit Card allows users to automatically earn bitcoin with every purchase, leveraging Visa’s global network and Stripe’s issuing infrastructure.
The card positions itself as a simplified entry point into cryptocurrency. “Our credit card offers clear and compelling value and makes bitcoin easily accessible to everyone,” said Fold founder and CEO Will Reeves. He emphasized that unlike other crypto-linked financial products, the Fold card does not require managing categories, staking tokens, or maintaining exchange balances. “Just real bitcoin, earned automatically with every purchase. It’s simple enough for someone new to bitcoin, but built with the transparency and control early adopters expect,” Reeves added.
The partnership reflects a convergence of financial and technological players seeking to normalize crypto integration. Visa, already a major supporter of digital asset initiatives, described the card as a way to make bitcoin earning frictionless. “Fold’s bitcoin rewards, paired with Visa’s scale and security, gives consumers a safe, simple way to earn bitcoin as they shop,” said Cuy Sheffield, the company’s head of crypto. “With the Fold Bitcoin Credit Card, cardholders can earn bitcoin anywhere Visa is accepted.”
The launch follows February’s debut of Fold’s Bitcoin Rewards Credit Card, also in partnership with Visa, but the new integration with Stripe represents a step forward in scalability and infrastructure. Stripe Issuing provides the back-end tools for issuing and managing the card, giving Fold the ability to expand its offering while ensuring compliance and reliability.
The announcement comes at a time when Stripe is doubling down on its crypto strategy. Earlier this month, the payments giant revealed a collaboration with crypto investment firm Paradigm to develop Tempo, a blockchain designed for real-world payments and optimized for stablecoins. Unlike blockchains centered on trading, Tempo is intended to support high-throughput, low-latency applications such as payroll, remittances, tokenized deposits, and global settlements.
Paradigm co-founder Matt Huang underscored the shift toward utility-driven crypto infrastructure, noting that “crypto’s ability to tackle real-world use cases including global payments and payroll, remittances, tokenized deposits for 24/7 settlement, embedded financial accounts, microtransactions, agentic payments and more” could transform financial systems. Stripe’s co-founder Patrick Collison added that Tempo addresses pain points in existing blockchains, particularly around transaction fees, which he argued should be denominated in fiat currencies familiar to users rather than in native blockchain tokens.
For Fold, the new card could prove pivotal in bridging the gap between crypto enthusiasts and everyday consumers. By embedding bitcoin rewards into a familiar financial instrument—the credit card—the company aims to normalize bitcoin not as a speculative asset, but as a practical benefit tied to routine spending. If widely adopted, the Fold Bitcoin Credit Card may become one of the most visible examples of digital assets moving from niche investments to mainstream consumer finance.
