Strategy Adds 267 BTC for $22M While Buying Back $193M in Stock, Treasury Hits 848,517 Bitcoin

Strategy purchased 267 BTC for $22 million while repurchasing $193 million in STRC shares, bringing its total bitcoin holdings to 848,517 coins. The dual move signals confidence in both the bitcoin price and the company's equity valuation.

Strategy's bitcoin treasury now holds 848,517 BTC after the firm confirmed another purchase this week, a relatively modest 267-coin acquisition worth roughly $22 million at an average price near $82,397. The headline number, though, isn't the bitcoin buy. It's the $193 million in STRC share repurchases running alongside it.

The dual move signals something deliberate. Strategy bought back 1.94 million STRC shares while simultaneously expanding its Digital Credit Securities Repurchase Program authorization to $3 billion total. That's not a company hedging its bets. That's a firm doubling down on its own capital structure with enough conviction to put nine figures behind it in a single reporting period.

"We found room for more orange."

Michael Saylor, Strategy

The line is vintage Saylor, but the mechanics underneath it matter. Strategy now holds $5.3 billion in USD-denominated assets alongside its bitcoin stack, and the 848,517 BTC position carries approximately $5.9 billion in paper gains. At current prices, the company controls roughly 4% of all bitcoin that will ever exist. That concentration figure cuts both ways: it's a testament to six years of systematic accumulation since Saylor's 2020 treasury pivot, and it's a systemic risk flag that institutional counterparties can't easily ignore.

The share buyback program deserves scrutiny on its own terms. Repurchasing stock at scale makes sense when a company believes its shares are trading at a discount to intrinsic value. For Strategy, intrinsic value is essentially a leveraged bet on bitcoin. If STRC trades at a premium to its net asset value (the market value of its BTC holdings minus liabilities), buybacks at those levels destroy capital rather than create it. The $3 billion authorization expansion suggests management believes the stock is cheap, or at minimum fairly valued, relative to the underlying bitcoin position. Whether that assessment holds depends entirely on where BTC goes from here.

A single corporate entity controlling 4% of a fixed-supply asset creates an asymmetric market dynamic. Strategy's purchases have historically moved sentiment; its potential distress scenario, however unlikely, would move prices in the other direction with equal force. The company has navigated multiple bitcoin drawdowns without forced selling, and its $5.3 billion USD reserve provides meaningful liquidity buffer. But the risk is structural, not theoretical.

For context, Strategy's 848,517 BTC exceeds the combined bitcoin holdings of every publicly traded bitcoin miner by a wide margin. The closest non-government institutional competitor holds a fraction of that position. This isn't accumulation anymore in the traditional sense. It's a bet so large it has become part of the market's architecture.

The $3 billion buyback authorization and the continued BTC purchases together tell a consistent story: Strategy is treating its own equity and bitcoin as complementary capital allocation tools, not competing ones. When bitcoin looks relatively expensive or share prices dip, buybacks absorb supply. When bitcoin dips, the treasury buys more coin. The flywheel logic is coherent. The execution risk is that both assets are correlated, so a severe bitcoin drawdown hits the equity price and the underlying treasury simultaneously, limiting the effectiveness of either tool as a hedge against the other.

Short-term traders watching STRC will note the buyback support as a technical floor. Longer-term, the $3 billion authorization gives management significant flexibility heading into what has historically been a strong Q4 period for bitcoin. With 848,517 coins on the books and $5.9 billion in unrealized gains, Strategy has the balance sheet to keep playing offense. Whether that's prudent capital stewardship or the most concentrated single-asset corporate treasury bet in financial history probably depends on your BTC price target.
