In a discreet yet significant move, Elon Musk’s aerospace company SpaceX has transferred $153 million worth of Bitcoin—its first such action in over three years. The shift, detected by blockchain analytics firm Arkham Intelligence, involved 1,308 BTC being sent from a wallet long attributed to SpaceX to a new, unidentified address.

This marks the first on-chain activity by SpaceX since June 2022, when the firm offloaded 3,505 BTC to Coinbase. At the time, that transaction was valued at just over $100 million. As of this week, the same wallet retains approximately 6,977 BTC, now valued at over $820 million amid a surging Bitcoin market.

Under Musk’s leadership, SpaceX and Tesla have quietly emerged as major institutional Bitcoin holders. Tesla’s $1.5 billion BTC acquisition in 2021 made headlines, positioning the electric vehicle manufacturer as a pioneer in corporate crypto adoption. According to Arkham, Tesla and SpaceX together hold more than $2 billion in Bitcoin, with the average acquisition cost estimated at $32,000 per coin.

With Bitcoin reaching an all-time high of $122,838 last week, these holdings are now collectively up nearly $1.5 billion. This surge has also prompted long-dormant Bitcoin whales—some dating back to the Satoshi Nakamoto era—to liquidate vast sums, including one movement of 80,000 BTC.

Although SpaceX has not disclosed the rationale behind this latest transaction, analysts suggest the firm may be reorganizing its crypto infrastructure rather than preparing for a sell-off. The move could indicate internal adjustments in storage practices or enhanced security protocols.

Meanwhile, Elon Musk continues to blur the lines between technology, finance, and politics. Recently, he announced the launch of a new political party, dubbed the America Party, following a contentious fallout with Donald Trump. Musk has positioned the party as pro-Bitcoin, stating, “Fiat is hopeless.”

Tesla, for its part, has hinted it may resume accepting Bitcoin as payment once mining activity reaches 50% green energy usage—a threshold Musk has previously cited as critical for broader crypto adoption.

As SpaceX and Tesla deepen their crypto entrenchment, their market maneuvers signal not only confidence in Bitcoin’s long-term value but also a broader alignment with decentralized finance as part of Musk’s evolving vision.
