SHIB Army Votes on Burn Strategy as Kusama Reemerges in Shibarium Debate

The Shiba Inu community is once again taking center stage in shaping the future of the ecosystem’s tokenomics. A new governance poll on the official Shiba Inu website is gathering momentum, asking users how SHIB and BONE tokens should be burned on the Shibarium network.

While Shytoshi Kusama—Shiba Inu’s elusive figurehead—has previously distanced himself from day-to-day leadership, his name resurfaced after being tagged in the BONE token account’s post announcing the poll. Alongside developer Kaal Dhairya, Kusama was brought into the public spotlight, suggesting that even symbolic involvement still holds weight in the SHIB Army’s decentralized politics.

The poll allows BONE holders to vote with their tokens, and interest has surged. Over 120,000 BONE have already been staked to signal preferences on the burn strategy. Four main options are on the table:

This last option, the most dynamic and price-sensitive, has taken a strong lead. It suggests that voters favor a more responsive approach, adapting burn priorities based on token valuations.

The renewed governance initiative comes at a moment when SHIB burns have dropped precipitously. According to Shibburn, daily burn rates have fallen by over 95%, with just 313,491 SHIB destroyed over the last 24 hours. Weekly burn data is also down 70.78%, though still represents over 34.5 million SHIB removed from circulation.

Despite these drops, the long-term burn statistics remain significant. More than 410.75 trillion SHIB have been permanently removed from the original 1 quadrillion supply, signaling the SHIB Army’s sustained commitment to scarcity-driven value.

Still, the sharp fall in recent burns and the pivot toward participatory governance suggest that the community is rethinking its strategy. The outcome of this vote may determine whether Shibarium will act as a meaningful deflationary mechanism—or just another meme-fueled experiment in decentralized decision-making.
