Ondo Finance and Ripple Join Forces to Reinvent Institutional DeFi on XRP Ledger
Ondo Finance and Ripple are bringing tokenized Treasuries to XRP Ledger in a push for institutional DeFi.
Ondo Finance has unveiled a bold initiative to reshape institutional finance by leveraging the XRP Ledger, marking a significant step toward integrating traditional financial instruments with decentralized networks. The move is being framed as the foundation for a "Wall Street 2.0," where tokenized U.S. Treasuries and other real-world assets operate seamlessly on-chain.
Nathan Allman, CEO of Ondo Finance, highlighted the inefficiencies of legacy finance—where settlement delays and limited access hinder capital flow—and emphasized the promise of blockchain as a 24/7 infrastructure for real-time asset transfer. Ondo’s popular tokenized Treasury product, OUSG, already backed by BlackRock’s BUIDL fund, will now expand to Ripple’s high-speed, low-latency ledger.
“The goal is to merge the trust and structure of traditional finance with the accessibility and speed of DeFi,” Allman stated during a recent public conversation hosted by Ripple. With the XRP Ledger’s proven uptime and scalability, Ondo aims to provide institutional clients with secure, always-on infrastructure for trading and managing tokenized securities.
This collaboration is part of a broader industry trend focused on cross-chain interoperability and the tokenization of real-world assets. Chainlink, the decentralized oracle network, is playing a pivotal role in this transformation. Its new Chainlink Runtime Environment (CRE) aims to reduce development times for smart contracts and enable them to interact more easily with external data and different blockchain systems.
In a notable demonstration, Chainlink, JPMorgan’s Kinexys platform, and Ondo Finance executed a cross-chain transaction bridging a private network with a public testnet. The pilot underscores the growing appetite among major players to converge the best of traditional finance with the decentralized capabilities of blockchain.
The implications are profound: if successful, projects like Ondo’s could democratize access to high-grade financial products, offering global liquidity and operational transparency. And with Ripple's XRPL as the chosen settlement layer, institutional DeFi may gain a secure, reliable backbone.
As the race to tokenize U.S. Treasuries and build interoperable financial networks intensifies, partnerships like Ripple and Ondo's suggest that the next generation of finance won't be built solely on Wall Street—it will be written in code.
