Monad Prepares $2.5B Token Launch as Coinbase Debuts New Sale Platform
Monad launches Nov. 24 via Coinbase’s new sale platform with 50.6% of tokens locked and a $2.5B valuation.
Layer-1 blockchain startup Monad confirmed its long-awaited public mainnet launch for November 24, setting the stage for one of the year’s most closely watched token offerings. The event marks both the debut of Coinbase’s new global token sale platform and the latest attempt to bring institutional credibility to public crypto fundraising.
The initial offering will release just 7.5 percent of MON’s total 100 billion supply, priced at $0.025 per token and accessible in more than 80 countries — including the United States. Coinbase’s sale runs from November 17 through November 22, with investment thresholds set between $100 and $100,000 per participant. If fully subscribed, the offering would raise $187.5 million, valuing the network at roughly $2.5 billion on a fully diluted basis.
Half of the token supply — exactly 50.6 percent — will remain locked at launch, ensuring that neither investors nor team members can stake or sell immediately. All team, investor, and treasury allocations are bound by long-term vesting schedules, a structure designed to signal commitment and reduce speculative volatility.
Monad’s token distribution reserves 38.5 percent of MON for ecosystem development, 27 percent for the founding team, and 19.7 percent for early investors. The Category Labs Treasury, formerly Monad Labs, will retain 4 percent, while 3.3 percent will be allocated to an airdrop targeting early community participants. Both public sale and airdrop tokens will be unlocked on day one.
Coinbase unveiled its new token sales infrastructure on Monday, months after acquiring crowdfunding startups Echo and Sonar for a combined $400 million. The exchange said it plans to host roughly one sale per month, positioning itself as a compliant alternative to traditional initial coin offerings. Monad’s launch, therefore, doubles as both a major network debut and a test case for Coinbase’s new model.
The Monad Foundation will administer the ecosystem allocation through a long-term grant and validator delegation program intended to build sustained participation rather than speculative hype. The foundation’s approach focuses on ecosystem health and real-world network utility — a strategic contrast to many short-lived token releases that flood markets with liquidity.
Founded in 2022, Monad has raised $225 million from leading venture funds to develop an Ethereum-compatible, high-speed blockchain capable of rivaling Solana’s throughput while preserving Ethereum’s decentralization principles. Co-founder Keone Hon said the project’s public sale aims to extend crypto’s reach beyond its core audience. “The world is large, and crypto must grow beyond existing communities,” he noted, adding that Monad’s technology is designed for “mass adoption rather than echo chambers.”
As the November 24 launch approaches, all eyes will be on whether Coinbase’s new sales model and Monad’s disciplined distribution can set a new precedent for responsible token launches in an evolving market landscape.
