In a move that could redefine how users interact with decentralized finance, MetaMask has rolled out multichain accounts, enabling seamless asset management across multiple blockchains from a single interface. The update transforms the wallet — long synonymous with Ethereum — into a truly interoperable Web3 gateway, bringing together networks such as Ethereum, Solana, Arbitrum, Base, and Linea, with Bitcoin integration on the horizon.

The upgrade, based on the BIP-44 standard, allows users to manage multiple blockchain addresses through one recovery phrase, eliminating the need to juggle separate wallets for each ecosystem. According to MetaMask, the new architecture not only simplifies operations but also boosts performance, with asset loading speeds reported to be up to 30 times faster.

Released automatically through MetaMask Mobile (v7.57) and Extension (v13.5), the update redefines the structure of a crypto wallet. In this model, a “wallet” represents a collection of accounts tied to a single recovery phrase, each “account” acts as a multichain hub, and each “address” serves as a unique blockchain endpoint. This modular approach lets users hold Ethereum tokens, Solana assets, and EVM-based positions within a unified “Account 1” — a major step toward reducing the fragmentation that has long plagued crypto usability.

“MetaMask’s move to multichain support addresses one of the industry’s biggest pain points,” said a ConsenSys analyst, noting that interoperability is becoming the defining feature of next-generation wallets. With more than 30 million monthly active users, MetaMask’s adoption of multichain architecture could catalyze broader industry alignment toward unified standards.

The timing of the update has also fueled speculation about the long-awaited MASK token, rumored to accompany MetaMask’s ecosystem expansion. Earlier this week, users reported a fleeting appearance of a potential “claims portal” before it redirected to the homepage, sparking excitement across social media. ConsenSys CEO Joe Lubin added to the anticipation, hinting that the token’s debut could arrive “sooner than you would expect.”

For now, the company’s focus appears squarely on performance, security, and usability. The new setup automatically pairs existing EVM and Solana addresses while preserving recovery phrases, ensuring backward compatibility. Hardware wallet support for non-EVM chains is still in development, but early tests suggest smooth integration ahead.

The rollout reflects a broader trend sweeping through Web3: the push toward cross-chain interoperability. With decentralized finance expanding beyond single-network boundaries, wallets capable of handling multiple protocols are becoming the new standard.

By uniting major blockchains under a single account architecture, MetaMask is not just simplifying crypto management — it’s laying the groundwork for the next phase of decentralized identity and asset control. As Bitcoin support and the MASK token loom, MetaMask’s evolution signals a future where managing digital assets feels less like switching networks — and more like navigating one connected Web3 world.
