First Lady Melania Trump has reignited attention around her namesake Solana-based meme coin, MELANIA, after sharing a promotional video to her 3.8 million followers on X. The move briefly pushed the token’s price upward, though it remains a shadow of its former peak.

On October 2, Trump reposted an AI-generated video from the token’s official account, captioned “Into the future,” marking the first public promotion of the project in months. Following the retweet, MELANIA rose nearly 7% in 24 hours, briefly touching $0.191 before settling around $0.182 at press time. Weekly gains are now over 12%.

Yet the rally does little to reverse the coin’s broader trajectory. MELANIA is still down nearly 99% from its January all-time high of $13.05. The token launched just two days after former President Donald Trump debuted his own TRUMP coin, which itself has tumbled from above $73 to under $8.

The project surrounding MELANIA has been marred by controversy. In April, blockchain analytics firm Bubblemaps revealed that $30 million worth of tokens were siphoned from community funds and sold on the open market by insiders. Additional reports suggested at least $10 million more was quietly extracted through tactics involving single-sided liquidity pools, linked to strategist Hayden Davis, who also worked on Argentina’s notorious Libra token promoted by President Javier Milei.

Despite these revelations, the project’s team has remained silent, sparking ongoing criticism from watchdogs and investors alike. “Woooo Melania Trump won’t address the $10M of community tokens sold by team wallets,” Bubblemaps posted on X this week. “Just post an AI video after 10 months of silence? Cool, cool, cool.”

The First Lady’s return to promoting her token comes at a volatile time for meme coins, which thrive on hype but struggle with long-term sustainability. While her endorsement offered a fleeting price bump, skeptics argue that unresolved concerns about transparency and token management continue to cast a shadow over MELANIA’s prospects.

For now, the coin remains emblematic of the boom-and-bust cycle of politically branded meme tokens—capable of dramatic surges but equally vulnerable to steep collapses once initial excitement fades.
