Litecoin Closes In on Shiba Inu Amid Market Cap Reshuffle
Litecoin nears Shiba Inu in market cap rankings, signaling shifting sentiment as LTC volume and price action outpace SHIB.
A market cap reshuffle is brewing just outside the top 15 cryptocurrencies, as Litecoin (LTC) inches closer to overtaking Shiba Inu (SHIB). With less than $350 million separating their valuations, traders are keeping a close eye on the developing contest between the utility-focused altcoin and the community-driven meme token.
As of June 19, 2025, Shiba Inu maintains a narrow lead with a market capitalization of $6.815 billion. Litecoin, however, has gained momentum, reaching $6.480 billion in market value, powered by stronger trading activity and a more stable price trend.
Over the past 24 hours, Litecoin recorded $329.2 million in trading volume, more than doubling Shiba Inu’s $121.7 million. This sharp disparity suggests growing short-term confidence in LTC and a corresponding decline in interest around SHIB.
Price action further supports the divergence. Litecoin rose 1.45% in daily trading to $85.29, despite a 7-day dip of 3.41%. Shiba Inu, by contrast, has lost 7.9% over the same period and remains stagnant at $0.00001156. The lack of price momentum for SHIB is tied to reduced market activity and waning investor enthusiasm.
The tokenomics of both assets underline their differing roles in the crypto ecosystem. Litecoin’s circulating supply of under 76 million coins positions it as a low-supply, transaction-oriented asset with established utility. In contrast, Shiba Inu's supply exceeds 589 trillion tokens, reinforcing its profile as a high-volume, meme-driven currency.
While neither coin is expected to break into the top 10 in the immediate future, their rivalry at the cusp of the top 15 is increasingly shaping trader sentiment. If current trends persist, Litecoin may soon flip Shiba Inu, signaling a broader preference shift from speculative meme coins to more established altcoin projects.
As the market recalibrates and volume-driven confidence grows, Litecoin's steady hand may yet earn it a higher seat at the crypto table.
