KuCoin Ends All Services in Russia and Belarus, Effective Immediately

KuCoin has ended all products and services for customers in Russia and Belarus, effective immediately. It is the third major exchange this month to restrict the region, after MEXC and Bitget. It names no specific law and sets no single withdrawal deadline.

Customers in Russia and Belarus can no longer use any KuCoin product or service. The exchange announced on Thursday, Oct. 29, that the cutoff takes effect immediately. It cited "applicable legal and regulatory requirements" and did not name specific laws or sanctions.

In its official notice, KuCoin said affected customers will receive individual notifications with deadlines and instructions for closing positions and withdrawing funds. Users who receive no notification were told no immediate action is needed. KuCoin also published a Russian-language version of the notice.

In a post on X on Thursday, KuCoin said:

"Compliance is at the core of our operations and guides our decisions on where and how we offer our services,"

The exchange said it would offer an "orderly exit process" for users to withdraw assets. It has not published a universal withdrawal deadline, so the individual notices are the only guidance users have on how long they have to act. KuCoin, which is headquartered in the Seychelles, has not disclosed how many customers are affected.

KuCoin is the third major exchange this month to restrict services in the region. MEXC began winding down Russia and Belarus services on Oct. 20. Bitget added Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan to its restricted jurisdictions in October and barred VPN use to circumvent the restrictions, according to The Insider.

KuCoin ranks eighth on CoinMarketCap, with about 45 million users and nearly $1.2 billion in daily trading volume.

The exits follow the EU's 20th sanctions package, adopted in April, which prohibited crypto transactions with service providers in Russia and Belarus. Further measures followed in July. KuCoin's notice did not cite that package or any other specific rule.

In January 2025, KuCoin reached a $300 million settlement with US authorities over unlicensed money transmission.
