Kraken, in collaboration with asset tokenization platform Backed, has expanded its xStocks initiative to BNB Chain, signaling a key evolution in the convergence of traditional finance and decentralized finance (DeFi). The integration allows tokenized versions of over 60 U.S. equities, including blue-chip stocks like Apple and Tesla, to be issued and traded as BEP-20 tokens.

This strategic move leverages BNB Chain’s scalability and broad user base, enhancing cross-chain liquidity and enabling seamless DeFi integration. xStocks had previously launched on Solana, but the addition of BNB Chain amplifies its multichain ambitions, positioning tokenized equities as foundational assets in the emerging Web3 financial stack.

"Tokenized equities aren’t just digital representations of stocks—they’re a fundamental upgrade to the financial system," said Kraken Co-CEO Arjun Sethi. The expansion aims to provide greater access to real-world assets (RWAs) and facilitate innovative financial products such as lending, synthetic derivatives, and yield-generating instruments.

The integration is expected to boost trading volume and liquidity across decentralized exchanges (DEXs) while also paving the way for regulated DeFi strategies tailored to institutional players. With traditional equity tokens now accessible on-chain, institutional investors can engage with DeFi protocols in a compliant, programmable environment that maintains the familiarity of conventional assets.

This multichain deployment reflects a larger industry shift toward interoperability and infrastructure diversification. By building across ecosystems, xStocks increases its reach and resilience, appealing to both retail and institutional audiences seeking exposure to tokenized RWAs.

In addition, the BNB Chain expansion enhances DeFi’s utility as a capital markets layer, encouraging further adoption of blockchain for asset settlement, collateralization, and risk management. Analysts see the move as part of a broader endorsement of DeFi as a viable alternative for asset trading and custody.

As tokenized equities become more deeply embedded in decentralized protocols, they offer a glimpse into the future of capital markets: borderless, transparent, and governed by programmable logic.
