Hunter Biden Launches LAPTOP Memecoin on Base, Airdrops 20% to TRUMP Token Losers

Hunter Biden confirmed this week he will launch a memecoin called LAPTOP on Coinbase's Base network on September 9, 2026, with one-fifth of the total supply earmarked for airdrop to wallets that lost money on the TRUMP memecoin.

The token carries a 1 billion total supply. That means up to 200 million LAPTOP tokens will be distributed to TRUMP holders who took losses, a move that reads simultaneously as a PR play, a political troll, and a retail acquisition strategy. The remaining 80% of supply has not been publicly broken down at time of writing.

The launch details were confirmed by major crypto outlets, citing the token's deployment on Base and the airdrop structure targeting burned TRUMP wallets. Base, Coinbase's Ethereum layer-2 network, has become the default venue for high-profile memecoin launches over the past year, offering low gas fees and the brand credibility of a publicly traded exchange behind its infrastructure.

The market did not wait for the official launch date. Within one hour of the initial report circulating, at least 14 copycat LAPTOP tokens appeared across four separate networks, generating roughly $6.9 million in aggregate trading volume. That figure is a useful data point: it tells you how much speculative capital is sitting ready to fire at anything with cultural velocity, regardless of whether the underlying asset is legitimate. Most of those copycat tokens will go to zero. Some will rug before the real LAPTOP even deploys.

The airdrop targeting TRUMP losers is the most strategically interesting element here. TRUMP launched in January 2026 and, like virtually every political memecoin before it, made early buyers rich and late buyers poor. Directing tokens toward that specific wallet cohort accomplishes a few things at once: it generates goodwill among a group with demonstrated appetite for political crypto, it creates a ready-made distribution list of wallets already comfortable holding volatile assets, and it frames the LAPTOP launch as a kind of redemption trade. Whether that framing holds after the airdrop unlocks is another question entirely.

The regulatory picture is murkier. Political figure memecoins have drawn increasing scrutiny from the SEC, which has signaled interest in whether token launches by public figures constitute unregistered securities offerings. The TRUMP memecoin itself attracted congressional attention earlier this year. A launch by a member of the Biden family, named after one of the most politically charged objects in recent American history, is unlikely to fly under the radar. The airdrop mechanism adds another layer: distributing tokens to specific wallet addresses based on prior trading history could invite questions about whether the targeting constitutes a form of solicitation.

None of that regulatory uncertainty stopped TRUMP from trading at nine-figure market caps, and it probably will not stop LAPTOP either, at least initially.

The 14 copycat tokens are the real risk for retail. This pattern is well-established: a high-profile name drops, scammers deploy lookalike contracts within minutes, and undiscerning buyers pile in on the wrong ticker. By the time the legitimate token launches Tuesday, the memecoin graveyard will likely contain dozens of LAPTOP variants. Anyone buying before the official contract address is confirmed by Hunter Biden directly is taking on scam exposure, not just market risk.

For Base, another major memecoin launch is a double-edged milestone. Network activity and fee revenue go up. So does the reputational association with speculative chaos. Coinbase has walked that line carefully since Base launched, and a politically charged memecoin from a figure under ongoing public scrutiny will test that balance again.

LAPTOP deploys Tuesday. The airdrop snapshot methodology, vesting schedules, and team allocation details have not been fully disclosed. Those numbers matter enormously for price action post-launch. Until they are public, the only honest read is this: the cultural hook is real, the speculative demand is already proven by $6.9 million in fake-LAPTOP volume, and the downside scenarios are exactly what you would expect from a memecoin with no stated utility and maximum political surface area.

Trade accordingly.
