GameSquare has taken a bold step into decentralized finance (DeFi) with the launch of a $100 million Ethereum (ETH) treasury designed to deliver yields as high as 14%—a move that positions the company among a growing list of corporates pivoting toward Ethereum-based strategies.

The announcement, made on July 8, was met with investor enthusiasm, sending GameSquare’s stock soaring nearly 60% in a single trading session. The share price opened at $0.99, peaked at $1.69, and closed at $1.54, according to Google Finance.

GameSquare revealed that it had priced an underwritten public offering of 8.42 million shares at $0.95 each, expected to generate $8 million in gross proceeds. These funds will be used to initiate a broader $100 million ETH treasury operation aimed at outperforming conventional staking yields.

While typical Ethereum staking returns hover around 3% to 4%, GameSquare’s strategy targets yields between 8% and 14%, leveraging advanced DeFi protocols. The firm’s CEO, Justin Kenna, emphasized that the initiative will improve capital allocation, enable strategic ETH acquisitions, fund potential share repurchases, and support growth reinvestment.

To execute the plan, GameSquare has partnered with Dialectic, a crypto-native capital management firm specializing in risk-adjusted DeFi optimization using AI and automation. Lucid Capital Markets is acting as the sole underwriter for the offering.

“We’ve aligned with a top-tier crypto investment partner to pursue real on-chain yield, expand our DeFi expertise, and reinforce our financial position,” Kenna stated.

Beyond staking, the treasury will explore other yield-generating opportunities within the Ethereum ecosystem, including stablecoin deployments and NFT-based income strategies, allowing for a diversified and dynamic approach.

GameSquare’s aggressive ETH strategy is part of a larger trend. SharpLink Gaming, now the largest corporate ETH holder, recently added nearly 7,700 ETH to its reserves, bringing its total to over 205,000 ETH. The firm has also launched an ETH Concentration metric to monitor its treasury focus.

Meanwhile, Bit Digital has transitioned its corporate reserves entirely into Ethereum, acquiring over 100,000 ETH following a $172 million equity raise. CEO Sam Tabar described the move as a vote of confidence in Ethereum’s programmable capabilities and sustainable yield model.

These developments mark a significant shift in how companies approach balance sheet management in the digital age, with Ethereum emerging not just as a speculative asset but as a programmable treasury tool.
