In a landmark transaction signaling deepening institutional involvement in Ethereum, the Ethereum Foundation has sold 10,000 ETH—valued at over $25 million—to SharpLink Gaming. The sale, completed at an average price of $2,572.37 per ETH, represents the largest direct ETH acquisition by a publicly traded company to date, marking a significant moment in Ethereum's integration into traditional financial frameworks.

The Ethereum Foundation described the deal as part of its routine treasury strategy, designed to enhance transparency and optimize asset allocation. SharpLink Gaming, on its part, views the purchase as a strategic move to align with Ethereum’s long-term roadmap, particularly its shift to proof-of-stake (PoS) and decentralized governance. According to SharpLink Chairman Joseph Lubin, the company is committed to supporting Ethereum’s decentralization objectives through active participation in its staking ecosystem.

The market responded swiftly. SharpLink’s stock soared by 50% following the announcement, underscoring investor enthusiasm for its bold crypto treasury play. Notably, the Ethereum transaction was executed over-the-counter (OTC), mitigating potential price volatility and demonstrating institutional discipline in managing large-scale crypto transactions.

As of July 11, ETH was trading near $2,997.67, with its 24-hour volume spiking by over 56% to reach $43.76 billion. Ethereum’s market capitalization now sits just shy of $362 billion, reflecting renewed investor confidence amid rising corporate engagement.

This transaction reinforces Ethereum’s standing as a critical asset in decentralized finance (DeFi) and as a treasury reserve for forward-looking corporations. Industry analysts point to SharpLink’s move as a bellwether for broader corporate interest in blockchain-native assets that offer both financial upside and ecosystem impact. The staking element is particularly noteworthy—greater ETH staking enhances network security, sustainability, and institutional alignment with Ethereum’s future.

By integrating ETH into its treasury, SharpLink joins a growing list of public firms positioning themselves at the intersection of blockchain and finance. This evolution echoes earlier milestones from companies like MicroStrategy and Metaplanet—but with a specific focus on Ethereum’s decentralized infrastructure.
