DADDY Meme Coin Crashes 40% After Andrew Tate's Miami Arrest
Andrew Tate's DADDY meme coin shed roughly 40% of its value in the days following his arrest in Miami on July 19, capping a collapse that has already erased 97% of the token's all-time high from two years ago.
UK prosecutors filed 38 criminal charges against Andrew and Tristan Tate, including rape, human trafficking, and actual bodily harm. The brothers were taken into custody in Miami. Andrew Tate denied the allegations, claiming he was being targeted. No convictions have been entered; the charges remain allegations.
The timing accelerated an existing decline. DADDY was already down nearly 97% from its peak, meaning the arrest gave holders a clear exit signal. At that drawdown level, the remaining base skews toward either the deeply committed or those too underwater to care about one more leg down. Many took the opportunity to sell.
Celebrity-backed tokens are structurally fragile. Their value proposition rests almost entirely on the continued relevance and reputation of one person. When that person faces legal jeopardy, the token's informal backing evaporates overnight. The same dynamic played out across the 2021 to 2024 cycle, where promoter scandals triggered sell-offs that rarely reversed. DADDY's situation is more extreme than most, given the severity of the charges and the pre-existing 97% drawdown that left the token with almost no cushion.
Fair counterpoints exist. Meme coins are inherently volatile, and some of the 40% move likely reflects automated liquidations and panic selling rather than any deliberate reassessment of fundamentals. Charges are not convictions. Some traders will read a 97% decline from the top as a distressed-asset setup and take a speculative position. But the risk-reward calculus on a token whose value is almost entirely tied to the public standing of someone facing 38 serious criminal charges is difficult to argue in favor of.
For retail traders still holding positions in influencer-backed tokens, DADDY is a live demonstration of what concentration risk looks like when the one variable that matters goes wrong all at once. Tokens built on personality rather than protocol are single-point-of-failure instruments.
