Crypto exchange Crypto.com has announced it has secured $120 million in insurance coverage to protect digital assets held in its U.S.-based Crypto.com Custody Trust Company. This move significantly enhances the platform’s credibility and risk mitigation strategy, particularly for institutional clients seeking secure digital asset storage.

The insurance policy, arranged by leading global insurance firm Aon in collaboration with underwriters from Lloyd’s of London, is one of the most substantial arrangements in the North American crypto custody sector. The coverage spans the first quarter of 2025 and is designed to safeguard eligible customer assets against crime, physical loss, and third-party theft.

“We built Crypto.com on a foundation of safety and security,” said Joe Anzures, president of Crypto.com Custody Trust. “This new insurance policy is a cornerstone in our commitment to offer a best-in-class custody platform our clients can trust.”

Of the total coverage, $100 million is earmarked for cold storage assets, providing a buffer against physical loss or theft. The remaining $20 million addresses risks related to cybercrime or external criminal breaches. These provisions place Crypto.com among the more comprehensively protected exchanges in the crypto ecosystem.

A recent CoinLaw report shows that as of 2025, only 22% of crypto exchanges globally have comprehensive insurance. Among these, the majority prioritize coverage for cyberattacks, a reflection of the growing threat landscape. Between 2022 and 2024 alone, insurance payouts for exchange-related hacks reached a staggering $1.8 billion.

The announcement also aligns with Crypto.com’s broader North American expansion strategy, which includes the recent opening of a Washington D.C. office and the launch of new financial products. The company recently partnered with Canary Capital Group to unveil the Canary CRO Trust, providing regulated exposure to its native Cronos (CRO) token.

This insurance milestone follows favorable regulatory developments in the U.S., where the Securities and Exchange Commission recently concluded its investigation into Crypto.com, signaling a more supportive environment for compliant crypto operations.

Crypto.com’s strategic focus on institutional trust, security, and transparency reinforces its positioning in the evolving digital finance landscape, where asset protection is becoming as critical as innovation.
