In a strategic move reshaping the stablecoin and blockchain landscape, Circle has officially launched USDC on the XRP Ledger (XRPL), expanding the regulated stablecoin’s footprint into one of crypto’s most established Layer 1 platforms. The integration allows developers, financial institutions, and users to interact with USDC natively on XRPL, eliminating the need for bridges or wrapped assets.

The development is seen as a significant leap in XRP Ledger’s long-term strategy to become a high-performance, enterprise-grade blockchain for real-world finance. With the launch, Circle now offers USDC liquidity on XRPL through Circle Mint and Circle APIs, enabling fast, low-cost, and secure stablecoin transactions.

“This marks a major expansion of stablecoin utility within the XRP ecosystem,” noted Circle’s release. The XRPL, live since 2012, has processed over 3.3 billion transactions and is known for its efficiency, minimal fees, and reliability—making it an attractive platform for cross-border payments, tokenized assets, and DeFi development.

The crypto community had long speculated about this integration. In early 2024, prominent XRP advocate Panos Mekras disclosed that Circle had no immediate plans to deploy USDC on XRPL. That stance has now reversed, likely due to pressure from the XRP community and Ripple’s strategic ambitions.

Ripple’s pursuit of stablecoin dominance is also intensifying. While an initial $5 billion bid to acquire Circle was declined, insiders report that Ripple has upped its offer to as much as $11 billion, outbidding competitors like Coinbase. Whether a merger materializes remains uncertain, but the move signals Ripple’s aggressive push into stablecoin infrastructure, complementing its development of RLUSD.

With native USDC support, XRPL is better positioned to compete with Ethereum, Solana, and other major chains in areas like DeFi, payments, and institutional finance. Developers can now build directly with a trusted, regulated stablecoin—unlocking new use cases in lending, settlement, and tokenized assets.

This launch not only enhances XRP Ledger’s technical stack but may also amplify adoption at a time when stablecoins are under renewed regulatory focus through measures like the Genius Act. Circle’s strategic decision to support XRPL demonstrates confidence in the ledger’s long-term viability as a financial-grade blockchain.
