CEA Industries Makes Historic $160M BNB Purchase, Eyes $1.25B Crypto Treasury
CEA Industries invests $160M in BNB, becoming the largest corporate holder with plans to expand its crypto treasury to $1.25B.
In a bold shift toward digital assets, CEA Industries has secured its position as the largest publicly traded corporate holder of Binance Coin (BNB) with a $160 million acquisition. The purchase, executed through its treasury management division, BNB Network Company (BNC), involved buying 200,000 BNB tokens, underscoring the company's transformation from a former nicotine vape business into a major player in the cryptocurrency investment arena.
This milestone comes on the heels of a $500 million private placement, spearheaded by 10X Capital and Changpeng Zhao’s YZi Labs. The funding not only financed the initial BNB acquisition but also set the stage for future expansion. CEA, which recently rebranded and changed its ticker from VAPE to BNC, has openly committed to making BNB its primary treasury reserve asset.
The leadership overhaul at BNC signals the seriousness of this pivot. David Namdar, co-founder of Galaxy Digital, has taken the helm as CEO. He is joined by Russell Read, former Chief Investment Officer at CalPERS, and Saad Naja, who previously served as a director at Kraken. In addition, Hans Thomas and Alexander Monje of 10X Capital have joined the company’s board, providing strategic oversight as the firm accelerates its crypto initiatives.
Looking ahead, CEA Industries has the capacity to dramatically scale its holdings. Through existing warrants, the company can potentially raise an additional $750 million, enabling total BNB investments to reach $1.25 billion. This approach reflects a broader trend in corporate crypto treasury management, where firms are diversifying beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum into alternative assets like BNB.
BNB, the native token of the BNB Chain blockchain, currently ranks fifth by market capitalization, trading near $813 and boasting a total market value of approximately $113 billion. Its use cases span transaction fee discounts, decentralized finance applications, and network governance, making it a core asset within the global crypto ecosystem.
For CEA Industries, the strategic bet is clear: offer institutional and retail investors indirect exposure to BNB without requiring them to hold the token directly. By positioning itself at the forefront of BNB adoption, the company is not only diversifying its balance sheet but also potentially shaping the next phase of corporate cryptocurrency investment strategies.
