BitMine’s Relentless Ether Grab Signals a New Era of Corporate Power in the Crypto Economy
BitMine accelerates ETH accumulation, nearing 3% of supply as it pushes toward a bold 5% ownership target.
BitMine Immersion Technologies is accelerating its climb toward becoming one of the most influential forces in Ethereum’s economic landscape. The publicly traded crypto-treasury firm has added another wave of large-scale purchases to its reserves, acquiring nearly $199 million worth of Ether in just two days. The latest accumulation brings BitMine’s total holdings to roughly $11.3 billion, equal to more than 3% of the entire circulating supply of ETH — a milestone that places the company closer than ever to its long-standing objective of securing 5% of all Ether in existence.
The purchases occurred through two high-value transactions: one worth more than $130 million on Friday and another of $68 million the following day. This rapid acquisition streak reflects a confidence that runs counter to the broader mood among institutional traders, many of whom have grown increasingly cautious toward Ethereum in recent months. BitMine, by contrast, has treated the pullback as a strategic opening. Over the past month, the company has bought approximately 679,000 ETH — a figure that dwarfs the combined activity of other major corporate treasuries.
Its aggressive expansion comes during a period of noticeable contraction across the digital-asset sector. Corporate participation in large crypto treasury positions has declined sharply, with market data showing that activity fell more than 80% in three months. In August, businesses accumulated nearly two million ETH, but by November, acquisitions had dropped to just 370,000. BitMine’s divergence from this trend underscores its belief in Ethereum as foundational infrastructure for future digital economies, a narrative it has consistently promoted through previous buying cycles.
Even with its massive holdings, the company retains significant dry powder. BitMine currently holds more than $880 million in cash reserves, suggesting it could continue its accumulation strategy if conditions remain favorable. The firm’s bullish stance stands in sharp contrast to short-term movements in derivatives markets, where sophisticated traders have expanded their short exposure. Recent data indicates an increase of $2.8 million in net ETH shorts over the past 24 hours, bringing total notional short positioning to about $21 million. Spot ETH ETFs are also experiencing sustained outflows, including more than $75 million pulled on Friday alone, following a $1.4 billion exodus in November.
BitMine’s rapid consolidation of Ether raises broader questions about the structural dynamics of Ethereum’s economy. If the company succeeds in reaching its 5% ownership goal, it would hold more ETH than all major decentralized staking pools combined. Such a concentration of assets could influence liquidity availability, staking participation and long-term network governance pressures. It also serves as an illustration of how corporate treasuries may evolve as cryptocurrencies become more deeply intertwined with traditional financial systems.
For now, the strategy appears clear: accumulate aggressively and maintain enough liquidity to continue shaping the Ethereum landscape. Whether the market’s caution proves justified or BitMine’s conviction carries the day, the company has already cemented itself as one of the most consequential actors in the ecosystem — and its influence is still expanding.
