Bitcoin has entered a defining moment in its market journey, posting a historic weekly close and closing in on its all-time high. On May 18, Bitcoin (BTC) reached a record weekly close of nearly $106,500—just under 3% shy of its all-time peak of $109,358. As of this writing, the cryptocurrency trades around $104,730, registering a 2% daily increase and extending a six-week rally that has reignited investor optimism.

Crypto analyst and investor Scott Melker underscored the bullish outlook, stating, "Bitcoin just had its highest daily candle close… ever." This technical milestone is widely viewed as a sign of strong market momentum and growing institutional interest.

Bitcoin's upward trajectory has also been supported by notable price appreciation over the past week. Climbing from a low of $94,000, BTC has surged by approximately $12,000 in just days—its most significant weekly gain since November. This surge coincides with renewed interest from U.S. investors, as reflected in the resurgence of the Coinbase premium, a key indicator of demand on American exchanges.

From a macro perspective, prominent analyst Willy Woo provided context for Bitcoin’s long-term growth trajectory. While BTC’s compound annual growth rate (CAGR) has decreased as the asset matures, Woo argues that Bitcoin is transitioning into a new category of macro asset. He forecasts that BTC’s growth will stabilize at an annual rate of around 8% over the next 15 to 20 years, positioning it as a reliable long-term investment.

Despite this moderated growth outlook, Woo emphasized Bitcoin’s superiority over traditional investment vehicles: “Almost no publicly investable product can match BTC performance long term, even as BTC’s CAGR continues to erode.” This reinforces the perception of Bitcoin as an emerging store of value, increasingly compared to gold or sovereign bonds.

As Bitcoin approaches its historic high, analysts remain focused on technical signals and broader market dynamics. Arete Capital recently noted that current sentiment and trading patterns may indicate significant developments ahead, possibly propelling BTC past its previous peak.

Bitcoin’s record-setting weekly close serves as a bellwether for growing confidence in crypto markets. As price momentum continues and institutional signals strengthen, the digital asset may be on the verge of rewriting history. For now, market watchers will remain fixated on whether Bitcoin can sustain its upward push and breach the elusive $109,000 mark
