In a landmark move set to transform digital finance across the African continent, Aptos Labs has announced a strategic partnership with fintech leader Yellow Card. The alliance will enable instant, gas-free stablecoin transfers across 20 countries, offering a major boost to crypto adoption in one of the fastest-growing digital economies in the world.

Aptos Labs, a Layer 1 blockchain known for its scalability and speed, brings its cutting-edge infrastructure to the partnership. Yellow Card, on the other hand, contributes its expansive, compliant financial network that already operates in markets like Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, and Uganda.

Together, they aim to eliminate one of the biggest pain points for African crypto users: gas fees. These transaction costs have often proven prohibitive, especially for users transferring small amounts. By introducing gas-sponsored transfers, users can now send and receive USDT and USDC without incurring any blockchain transaction fees.

“Africa is leading the way in stablecoin adoption for practical use cases,” said Alex Heuer, Head of Payment at Aptos Labs. “We’re excited to support Yellow Card in bringing millions of users seamless access to stablecoins across the continent.”

The timing of this initiative couldn’t be more strategic. Sub-Saharan Africa is undergoing a rapid digital transformation, fueled by a mobile-first population and widespread dissatisfaction with traditional banking systems. With over 54 million active crypto users in the region, demand for efficient and affordable digital transactions has never been higher.

Intelpoint reports that Africa now dominates peer-to-peer crypto trade volume, with seven countries ranking among the top ten globally. However, many users continue to struggle with platforms that are complex, slow, and expensive. Aptos and Yellow Card are positioning themselves to change that narrative.

“By eliminating gas fees and enabling instant settlement on the robust, next-generation Layer 1 Aptos network, we’re empowering millions,” said Gillian Darko, Director of Strategy at Yellow Card. The collaboration supports everything from daily purchases to cross-border remittances and e-commerce.

Aptos, which has recently launched its decentralized protocol Shelby and seen its CEO join a U.S. CFTC subcommittee, continues to demonstrate a strong push for global relevance and institutional alignment. This latest move into Africa could mark a new frontier for blockchain’s role in emerging markets.

As the fintech-crypto convergence accelerates, the Aptos-Yellow Card partnership sets a precedent for how digital assets can solve real-world problems at scale. For millions across Africa, the promise of frictionless, low-cost, and accessible financial services may finally be within reach.
