ApeChain Replaces LayerZero With Chainlink CCIP Across Yuga Labs

ApeChain is replacing LayerZero with Chainlink CCIP as the canonical bridge across Yuga Labs, including Bored Ape Yacht Club. APE and USDC will become Chainlink Cross-Chain Tokens, but holder migration steps and a legacy-bridge shutdown date are still missing.

One bridge standard for every Yuga Labs project. ApeChain is dropping LayerZero for Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP), the network announced on Nov. 4, 2026, and is making CCIP the canonical bridging standard across the full Yuga Labs ecosystem.

That puts every project under the Yuga umbrella, Bored Ape Yacht Club included, on a single interoperability framework.

What changes

ApeChain is an Arbitrum Orbit layer-3 chain built for the ApeCoin ecosystem. Until now it relied on LayerZero for all messaging and bridging.

Two assets move first. APE, the chain's native gas token, and USDC will both be upgraded to Chainlink Cross-Chain Tokens (CCTs). The CCT standard gives a token one consistent representation and movement mechanism across dApps, instead of each bridge maintaining its own wrapped version.

What is still missing

The details holders care about most are not in the announcements. They do not specify holder migration steps or a shutdown date for the legacy bridge.

So two questions stay open: how existing bridged balances are treated, and when, or whether, the LayerZero route closes.

The backdrop

The switch follows an April 2026 exploit of a LayerZero-powered bridge connected to Kelp DAO. Roughly $292 million drained. By July 2026, more than $7.2 billion in assets had migrated from LayerZero infrastructure to CCIP.

ApeChain is not the first to move. We covered BitGo shifting $7.4B in wrapped Bitcoin to CCIP, the largest LayerZero exit at the time, and Kraken's switch to CCIP after the $292M exploit.

Why it matters

Those earlier moves were custody and exchange infrastructure. This one covers a consumer-facing NFT brand, and it sets one standard across every Yuga project rather than a per-product choice.

Until ApeChain publishes holder steps and a legacy-bridge cutoff, the practical impact on users stays unclear.
