A jaw-dropping Ethereum (ETH) transfer has shocked crypto observers this week: 129,392 ETH, valued at $312,981,377, was moved from an unknown wallet to Coinbase, one of the world’s largest crypto exchanges. The timing has raised eyebrows, coinciding with a broader crypto market downturn and a drop in ETH’s price.

The transaction was flagged by Whale Alert, a blockchain tracking service known for monitoring large crypto transfers. While the sender’s identity remains unknown, the scale and destination of the transfer suggest a possible intent to sell. Historically, deposits to exchanges often precede sell-offs, as holders prepare to liquidate or rebalance portfolios.

Ethereum was down 3.26% on the day of the transaction, trading around $2,425. The dip mirrored a larger market pullback, with total liquidations reaching $471 million. On a weekly basis, ETH was down 4.17%, extending a bearish trend that has persisted for much of 2025.

Despite ongoing inflows into Ethereum-based exchange-traded funds (ETFs), the price response has remained muted. According to SoSoValue, ETH ETFs are set to record their sixth straight week of inflows and their eighth positive week in the past nine. However, investor confidence appears fragile, especially amid ongoing macroeconomic headwinds and intensified competition from rivals like Solana.

Adding to the uncertainty, Ethereum’s year-to-date performance reflects a 25% decline, fueled by slower network revenue growth and ambiguity around its post-upgrade value proposition. Even a once-bullish Standard Chartered revised its ETH price forecast downward in March, slashing its target by more than half.

Market watchers remain split on the motive behind the recent transfer. It could represent an institutional reshuffle, a high-stakes hedge, or merely internal fund management. Until the ETH is confirmed sold, speculation continues about its final destination—and its potential ripple effects on the market.

As Ethereum hovers near support levels and investor sentiment fluctuates, all eyes are now on whether this colossal transaction will mark the beginning of a deeper sell-off or just a temporary tremor in a volatile crypto landscape.
