1kx Projects Blockchain Revenue Near $100B in 2026, Down 28%
The 1kx Blockchain Revenue Report projects about $100 billion in 2026 industry revenue, a 28% drop blamed on lower token prices. In Q3, institutional and real-economy apps out-earned infrastructure for the first time, and public companies took 16% of revenue.
About $100 billion. That is where blockchain industry revenue is headed in 2026, according to the second annual Blockchain Revenue Report from investment firm 1kx, published October 29, 2026. The figure is a 28% drop from the prior year's estimate of roughly $140 billion.
1kx pins the decline mainly on falling digital asset prices. It says revenue has stabilized relative to overall market capitalization.
Institutions overtake infrastructure
The sharper signal is in the mix. Institutional adoption and broader-economy applications made up 30% of projected 2026 revenue and 33% in Q3. In Q3 they out-earned blockchain infrastructure for the first time: about $5.3 billion versus $5.1 billion. The category covers tokenized assets, payments and prediction markets. It grew 58% year over year in H1 2026.
User-paid onchain fees came to an estimated $3.9 billion in Q3. 1kx projects $14 billion in fees for the full year.
Public companies take a bigger slice
Publicly traded companies captured 16% of blockchain revenue in 2026, up from 7% in 2022. The report analyzed more than 2,600 protocols and earnings reports from 104 public companies through Q3.
H1 2026 breakdown: Coinbase and Circle, about $3.3 billion in combined blockchain-related revenue. Public Bitcoin miners, roughly $2 billion. Traditional finance firms, including JPMorgan, BlackRock, CME Group, Visa and Robinhood, another $1.1 billion. The 10 largest public companies in the study doubled their blockchain-related revenue over three years.
Concentration is the caveat. The six largest public companies account for an estimated 50% to 60% of the group's revenue, with the upper end of that range cited most often.
Holders get paid
A record 283 protocols returned value to token holders in Q3 through buybacks and fee distributions, per the report.
What it means
The numbers show an industry shrinking in dollar terms while its revenue base shifts toward real-economy use cases. Tokenization is the clearest example. RWA.xyz data shows tokenized real-world assets up about 51% in a year, from $26.16 billion in October 2025 to $39.54 billion. Tokenized equities rose 471% to $3.77 billion. Recent BCA coverage of objections to OKXICE tokenized stocks shows that corner of the market is drawing scrutiny as it grows.
A 28% revenue decline tied to prices is a cyclical story. Non-infrastructure revenue out-earning infrastructure for the first time looks more structural.
