Galaxy Digital and Sharplink Capital Launch $125M Fund to Deploy Institutional Ethereum Holdings Onchain

New York, August 10, 2026. Galaxy Digital and Sharplink Capital have jointly launched a $125 million fund designed to deploy institutional Ethereum holdings onchain through staking, DeFi yield strategies, and protocol-level capital deployment. The fund targets institutional investors holding substantial ETH positions but lacking the infrastructure to generate risk-adjusted returns.

Institutional Ethereum holdings are estimated at $180–220 billion, yet a fraction of that capital is actively deployed in onchain yield strategies. Current staking protocols including Lido and Rocket Pool offer 3.2–3.8% APY, while DeFi protocols such as Aave ($12–15 billion TVL) and Curve ($8–10 billion TVL) present additional yield opportunities. The fund will target net returns of 3–5% APY after fees, deploying across vetted protocols with combined TVL of $85–95 billion.

The fund's deployment strategy prioritizes capital preservation alongside yield optimization. Approximately 40% of capital will target liquid staking derivatives, 35% will flow to established DeFi lending protocols, and the remaining 25% will pursue emerging yield opportunities including tokenized real-world assets. Galaxy Digital, which manages $6.2 billion in AUM, brings institutional distribution relationships and DeFi expertise. Sharplink Capital contributes risk management infrastructure and compliance capabilities suited to institutional mandates.

The timing reflects a shift in the regulatory environment. SEC approval of Bitcoin and Ethereum spot ETFs in January 2024, combined with CFTC guidance on blockchain-based financial products issued in September 2024, removed primary barriers to institutional onchain participation. BlackRock's recent launch of tokenized money market funds on Ethereum, targeting $50–200 billion in AUM, further reflects institutional appetite for onchain yield products. EU MiCA regulation reaching full implementation in Q4 2026 is expected to unlock additional European institutional capital.

Risk management is central to the fund's structure. Deployment will be limited to protocols with at least $8 billion in TVL, independent security audits will precede any capital commitment, and position sizing will not exceed 5% of any single protocol's TVL. The fund will maintain 20–30% capital reserves for liquidity management and will carry smart contract insurance coverage through established providers. Quarterly performance reporting with full attribution analysis will be provided to all investors.

The fund faces recognized headwinds. Smart contract vulnerabilities remain a sector-wide concern, as demonstrated by Curve Finance's $61 million exploit in 2023. Traditional alternatives, including Treasury bonds, present direct competition for institutional capital allocation.

Ethereum's network fundamentals support the fund's thesis. The network processes $18–22 billion in daily volume, maintains over 100 million active addresses, and has operated without interruption for over a decade. Staking derivatives represent $35–42 billion in market capitalization, reflecting established market depth for institutional-scale deployment.
