Token Cat Approves a Bold $1 Billion Crypto Reserve as Tech Firms Race to Reinvent Their Treasury Strategies
Token Cat approves a $1B crypto reserve, appoints a new COO and adopts a bold strategy to reshape its treasury amid rising corporate crypto adoption.
Token Cat has taken one of the most ambitious treasury steps seen in 2025, announcing that its board has approved a plan to allocate up to $1 billion of its cash reserves into selected crypto assets. The move reflects a broader shift among technology companies, many of which are rethinking how they preserve long-term value amid economic uncertainty and a rapidly evolving digital-asset landscape.
The new “Crypto Asset Investment Policy,” approved on December 2, outlines a structured approach through which the company will deploy capital in phases based on market conditions, risk analysis and liquidity needs. As part of the rollout, Token Cat appointed Sav Persico as Chief Operating Officer, tasking the industry veteran with leading the execution of the strategy. CEO Guangsheng Liu described the initiative as a way to strengthen the company’s balance sheet through disciplined and forward-looking asset management.
The investment targets will concentrate on emerging sectors within the crypto ecosystem, including artificial intelligence-driven projects, “RAW-to-chain” innovations and hybrid models that blend token utility with equity-like features. Token Cat emphasizes that exposure to these segments aligns with what it considers high-potential areas of the next decade’s digital economy. Rather than handling custody internally, the firm plans to rely on top-tier external custodians to safeguard its reserves—an approach intended to minimize operational risk.
To refine and supervise decision-making, the company established a Crypto Asset Risk Committee led by its CFO. The group will oversee allocation frameworks, evaluate market threats and provide regular reports to the board. Token Cat has framed this reserve not as a speculative bet but as a long-term store of value designed to enhance financial resilience.
Its move comes as more companies turn to digital assets to diversify treasury holdings in 2025. Market volatility, inflation concerns and uncertainty in global monetary policy have prompted firms across industries to explore alternatives to traditional capital preservation. Strategy, a prominent corporate holder, now maintains what it describes as hundreds of thousands of BTC. VivoPower recently expanded into digital-asset reserves, raising capital specifically to invest in XRP. SharpLink Gaming adopted a similar direction, restructuring its model to accumulate Ethereum as a treasury asset, much of which it stakes for yield.
For Token Cat, the decision follows an intense year of restructuring. In November, the company exited several unprofitable units and authorized its U.S. subsidiary to explore raising $500 million for investments in next-generation energy infrastructure. These initiatives include nuclear-fission solutions intended to power AI and high-performance computing workloads—areas closely connected to the digital-asset sectors the company is now prioritizing.
Given Token Cat’s relatively small market capitalization of $29 million and the decline of its stock price earlier in the year, the decision to redirect such a significant amount of capital toward crypto assets is notably bold. Yet early investor reaction has been optimistic. Shares rose about 4.1% following the announcement, suggesting that investors may view the initiative as an assertive, future-focused attempt to reposition the company in a shifting technological landscape.
