The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has delayed its ruling on Truth Social’s proposed Bitcoin and Ethereum exchange-traded fund (ETF), extending the review deadline from August 24 to October 8. The decision highlights the regulator’s cautious stance toward cryptocurrency-backed financial products, even as demand for regulated digital asset investment vehicles continues to accelerate.

The proposal, filed by NYSE Arca on behalf of Truth Social, seeks to create a hybrid ETF that allocates 75% of its assets to Bitcoin and 25% to Ethereum. By combining the two largest cryptocurrencies into a single product, Truth Social aims to offer both retail and institutional investors diversified exposure to digital assets under a regulated framework.

This application is part of Truth Social’s broader strategy to expand its presence in the crypto investment space. Alongside the hybrid Bitcoin-Ethereum ETF, the company has also filed for a standalone Bitcoin ETF and a Blue Chip Crypto ETF, reflecting a clear ambition to capture a wider share of the emerging digital asset market.

The SEC’s hesitation reflects ongoing concerns over market manipulation, liquidity, custody solutions, and investor protections. While other jurisdictions such as Canada and parts of Europe have already approved similar products, the U.S. continues to take a conservative approach. Each extension signals that regulators are carefully balancing systemic risks against investor demand and financial innovation.

For investors, the extension creates uncertainty but also emphasizes the seriousness with which the SEC is reviewing these proposals. If approved, the ETF could represent a landmark moment in legitimizing multi-asset digital funds in the United States. Analysts argue that the allocation balance between Bitcoin and Ethereum could appeal to those seeking managed exposure to crypto without engaging directly in volatile trading platforms.

As the October 8 deadline approaches, both investors and market observers remain attentive. The SEC’s ruling will likely influence not only confidence in Truth Social’s proposal but also the future trajectory of cryptocurrency ETFs in the U.S. financial system. Until then, stakeholders must wait for a decision that could define the next chapter of crypto’s integration into mainstream finance.
