Reform UK has launched one of the most provocative political proposals in Britain’s recent financial history: transforming the country into a global hub for cryptocurrency innovation. Spearheaded by party leader Nigel Farage, the initiative was unveiled at the Bitcoin 2025 conference in Las Vegas, where he held up a copy of the party’s proposed “Crypto Assets and Digital Finance Bill.”

Farage declared, “We are going to launch in Britain a crypto revolution,” citing plans to make London a major global trading center. The bill proposes a dramatic reduction in the capital gains tax on crypto—from 24% to just 10%. Additional measures include establishing a Bitcoin reserve at the Bank of England and outlawing banks from shutting down the accounts of individuals engaged in crypto trading.

Further signaling its commitment, Reform UK also announced it would accept political donations in cryptocurrency, underscoring the party’s embrace of decentralized finance as a core political stance.

This announcement follows Bitcoin’s recent surge past $112,000, with prices still up 15% year-to-date. Farage argues that while digital assets become increasingly mainstream, traditional political parties in Britain have failed to act. “Seven million Britons already hold crypto,” he emphasized, “and one in four under-30s are invested—yet Labour and the Conservatives have ignored this movement.”

While the U.K. Treasury declined to directly address Farage’s comments, it pointed to the government’s April proposal to extend existing financial regulations to crypto firms. The draft law would require crypto exchanges and brokers to adhere to transparency and consumer protection standards akin to those imposed on traditional financial institutions.

Reform UK’s proposal arrives amid a global shift in crypto policy. In the U.S., President Trump has pivoted from skepticism to full support, pausing multiple SEC investigations and even hosting private events with major crypto investors. This alignment with U.S. deregulation, however, has raised concerns in the EU. The European Central Bank warned that Washington’s crypto embrace could spark financial instability across the eurozone.

Though Reform UK holds just five of 650 seats in Parliament, recent polling indicates it is outperforming the governing Labour Party. If Farage’s momentum continues, the party’s crypto agenda could reshape Britain's approach to digital finance—and challenge the status quo of global financial regulation.
